About The Position

The American Lung Association has an excellent opportunity for a Health Promotions Intern in Anchorage, AK. Working alongside members of the American Lung Association Team in Anchorage, AK. The intern will join an outstanding group of professionals dedicated to our mission: to save lives by improving lung health and preventing lung disease, through research, education, and advocacy. The intern will assist the American Lung Association Anchorage staff to execute health promotion and tobacco prevention activities to gain experience in the field of outreach, education, health policy, and community organizing in the context of tobacco prevention. The intern will support smokefree initiatives focused on community events, school-based education, youth and young adult prevention and healthcare engagement. In collaboration with the project team, the intern will attend community events, assist in school outreach, and participate in smokefree workgroup meetings. This is a paid internship position requiring a minimum time commitment of 10-20 hours per week (flexible schedule) and may be eligible for course credit or fulfill an internship graduation requirement. This position will end on June 30, 2026. PROJECTS This is a great opportunity for the intern to enhance their skills in organization, multi-tasking and communications. The intern can expect to develop confidence and marketable skills by engaging in or assisting with many of the following activities: Gain a basic understanding of the American Lung Association: Become knowledgeable of mission, development, and communications efforts. Gain technical training by utilizing Microsoft Office Suite applications, including Microsoft Teams. Participate in staff meetings and learning opportunities. Communications Asist in the development of media materials such as press releases, facts sheets and briefing documents. Assist in compiling media lists, media calendars and communications plans. Assist with brainstorming and providing creative ideas to execute communications efforts for events and tobacco programing. Advocacy & Health Promotion Research and summarize public health facts and figures Identify, schedule and conduct community outreach events and presentation opportunities throughout Anchorage schools and community. Develop and conduct presentations on smoke-free initiatives and other tobacco related topics to various groups. Assemble health education materials for presentations and tabling events to engage community in tobacco prevention. Identify and recruit clinics/health centers in Anchorage to promote cessation support. Assist with development of smoke-free activities and educational events. Assist in the office outreach efforts to encourage schools to offer lung health programming. Assist with brainstorming and providing creative ideas to execute secondhand smoke and tobacco prevention education programs. Assist with data collection for program evaluation and for preparation of semi-annual and final grant program reports. Requirements

Must be working towards a bachelor’s or master’s degree in health science, Non-Profit Management, or related field
Qualified candidates must be enthusiastic, reliable, and interested in developing a career in health sciences, advocacy or non-profit management
Qualified candidates should possess strong writing skills, attention to detail, and have a keen interest in the mission of the American Lung Association
Ability to multitask, perform in a team environment, and a demonstrated willingness to learn
Ability to work independently
Reliable transportation.
