About the Role: This application is for a 12-week internship role from June - August 2026. Resume review begins in February 2026. Biogen’s Health Equity & Clinical Innovation team is seeking a temporary intern to support the integration of health equity into core medical affairs operating processes and capabilities. This role will focus on assessing if/how equity considerations are currently applied and where they are missing or inconsistently addressed across medical affairs teams, strategy, evidence generation, scientific education, and engagements. In addition to process assessment, the intern will help translate health equity principles into practical medical affairs education resources that can be used by disease teams. The role is designed to generate scalable, repeatable impact by embedding equity into how medical affairs works—not as a standalone initiative, but as a core capability. This role will help us design and integrate community education as a core component of our Health Equity & Clinical Innovation team's operating model, reflecting how people increasingly access health information, build trust, and develop disease understanding outside traditional clinical settings. This internship is ideal for strategic, self-starter candidates interested in medical affairs operations, evidence strategy, health equity, public health, clinical development or healthcare systems design, and who enjoy structured, analytical work with tangible organizational outcomes. What You’ll Do: As an intern, you will support various aspects of our teams vital activities including: Medical Affairs Operating Process Assessment Map how health equity considerations are currently incorporated—or absent—across key medical affairs activities, including: Disease strategy development and medical planning Evidence generation and Phase IV / real-world evidence planning Scientific education, disease materials, and content development External scientific engagement and stakeholder planning Review existing medical affairs templates, guidance documents, and workflows to assess consistency and completeness of equity integration Health Equity Integration & Optimization Identify integration opportunities to embed health equity into existing standard medical affairs processes (e.g., added prompts, sections, or decision considerations) Propose updates to: Medical strategy and planning templates Evidence generation frameworks Education (internal and external) and engagement planning tools Ensure all recommendations are practical, scalable, and aligned with medical affairs governance and compliance expectations Education & Enablement Support Develop 1–2 internal medical affairs education modules/presentations focused on understanding health equity and applying health equity principles in day-to-day medical affairs work Create a health equity “quick reference” for disease teams, translating academic and public health concepts into clear, medical affairs relevant guidance Support development of practical tools that help medical affairs teams: Ask the right equity-focused questions during planning Identify evidence and education gaps Apply equity considerations consistently across disease areas Synthesis, Communication & Knowledge Transfer Translate findings into clear, medical affairs ready insights and visual summaries Support development of briefing materials and presentations for medical affairs and Health Equity leadership Contribute to internal alignment by framing equity as an enabler of scientific rigor, relevance, and impact Health Equity Disease Literature & Insights Reviews Complete at least one Health Equity Disease Literature and Insights Overviews aligned with medical affairs standards, including: Epidemiology and disease burden Demographic and geographic variation Severity, comorbidities, and outcomes Economic burden and access challenges, Diagnostic delay Racial/ethnic, age, and gender differences Quality of life and caregiver impact Published patient reported outcomes, patient experience and real-world data Present findings including opportunities for Biogen medical teams to medical affairs and Health Equity team members at the conclusion of the internship Additional Responsibilities Support medical affairs aligned community outreach initiatives Support ad hoc medical affairs or Health Equity projects as needed Contribute to synthesis decks, briefing documents, and insight summaries for internal stakeholders Who You Are: Strong interest in medical affairs, health equity, pharmaceutical development, rural health, public health, or clinical research Excellent written and verbal communication skills with demonstrated cultural humility Excellent analytical, synthesis, and organizational skills Ability to synthesize scientific, qualitative, and community-based insights into clear, actionable recommendations Organized, proactive, and comfortable working independently in a large, matrixed environment To participate in the Biogen Internship or Co-op Program, students must meet the following eligibility criteria: Legal authorization to work in the U.S. At least 18 years of age prior to the scheduled start date. Currently enrolled in an accredited community college, college, university or skills program/apprenticeship. Education Requirements Currently enrolled in a graduate (any year) or undergraduate (ideally rising senior) level program focused in: Medicine, nursing, pharmacy, public health, biology, clinical research, healthcare administration, health policy, or other healthcare related fields Candidates from other majors such as communications, sociology, psychology, anthropology, public relations, or related disciplines with strong relevance to health equity and medical affairs will also be considered Job Level: Internship Additional Information The base compensation range for this role is: $23.00-$29.00 The actual hourly wage offered will consider the candidate’s current academic level and degree candidacy, inclusive of Associate, Bachelor’s, Master’s, JD, MD, PhD and MBA programs. It will comply with state or local minimum wage requirements specific to the job location.
