About The Position

The Distribution Center Intern is responsible for working with the Distribution team to develop and implement system tools to improve and optimize our operations.

Requirements

  • Students actively enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate degree program at an accredited university college seeking a degree in Supply Chain or Management Information Systems and Computer Science or students actively enrolled in an accredited high school program.
  • Must be at least 17 years of age.
  • Experience using Microsoft Windows, Microsoft Office applications such as Word and Excel.
  • Willing and able to code new systems.
  • Programming experience, with operating system (Linux, Mac, etc.).
  • Programming and Database Administration experience (including classroom experience).
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.
  • Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
  • Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
  • Ability to work with all mathematical concepts/algorithms to such an extent that equations will be interpreted through Data Manipulative Language (SQL).
  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
  • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

Responsibilities

  • Analyzes processes and determine best practices.
  • Improves or suggests improvements in distribution reporting systems and procedures.
  • Understands policies, standards, procedures, and guidelines.
  • Assists in efforts to ensure regulatory compliance is met.
  • Ensures necessary changes to remediate operational issues.
  • Recommends solutions for system and procedural improvements with Distribution and total company.
  • Troubleshoots and tests new systems.
  • Recommend cost savings and profit generating opportunities and improvement strategies.
  • Assist the Distribution team in maintaining data accuracy and data quality in distribution systems and other reporting systems.
  • Works with vendors when their support is required to resolve security problems.
  • Gathers information about systems as requested by management and for audit and compliance purposes.
  • Assign work to drivers to ensure the safe, timely, efficient delivery of product to Harris Teeter stores in compliance with hours of service guidelines.
  • Dispatch drivers and equipment to optimize DOT hours of service.
  • Communicate with stores about early or late deliveries.
  • Ensure proper and timely maintenance including but not limited to: Dispatch, backhaul records, equipment needs, hours of service, on-time delivery performance, trip sheets, store order cases and cube, store mail, accident reporting.
  • Review trip sheets for accurate delivery time.
  • Adapt to various situations and adjust to shifting priorities.
  • Provide support for all operations of Inbound Logistics and Labor department as needed.
  • Compile and produce the daily reports: Out-Tracking for each warehouse shipping operation.
  • Review and approve Freight Allowances daily.
