About The Position

The Intern, Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) will play a critical role in supporting the day-to-day operations of our site. Successful candidates will be detail-oriented, organized, and eager to learn and grow in the life science industry. We're thrilled to provide a 10-week paid internship at our facility in Tustin, CA . As an intern, you'll dive deep into our team culture, take on significant projects, and play a vital role in our team's dynamics. This temporary, 40-hour per week office position is designed to offer you a wealth of experience and the chance to connect with professionals in the industry. What to Expect as an Avid Bio Intern: Summer Project: Personalized project plan, complete with a pre-determined roadmap and week by week milestones that the intern will need to meet, ensuring clear expectations and measurable outcomes. Mentorship: Your manager and team will provide training, mentorship, and development opportunities. Weekly Check-ins and 1:1s: Conduct both on a weekly basis to ensure clear communication and support for our interns. Performance Assessments: Conduct mid and end of program performance assessments to be provided with constructive criticism and feedback to help you grow and succeed. State of the Art Facility: You’ll be working amongst the brightest minds in our world class facilities Internship Experiences: Intern Open House, Summer Leadership Series, Lunch & Learns, Intern Night Out, Site Tours, End of Program Presentation Compensation: The compensation for this role is $20.00 per hour. Physical Demands & Work Environment: In this dynamic role, expect a blend of regular activities like sitting, standing, and walking, with occasional physically engaging tasks such as lifting objects up to 20 pounds. While the work environment may at times involve being around electrical hazards, toxic chemicals, vibrations, or elevated noise levels, comprehensive safety programs are implemented to promote a safe and compliant work environment. Your visual acuity, including close, distance, and color vision, will be essential in navigating through the diverse day-to-day demands of this position.

Requirements

Nice To Haves

  • Enrolled in a bachelor’s program in Environmental Science, Occupational Health & Safety, Industrial Hygiene, Engineering, or a related field.
  • Basic understanding of safety principles, OSHA fundamentals, or environmental compliance (coursework acceptable).
  • Passionate about a career in the biotech industry and looking to gain valuable experience through this internship.

Responsibilities

  • Develop reports and trend analyses for EHS KPIs.
  • Update hazard communication by gathering and uploading SDSs for onsite chemicals.
  • Participate in workplace hazard assessments and document findings.
  • Support sustainability initiatives to reduce waste, greenhouse gas emissions, and water usage.
  • Maintain accurate and organized EHS records, logs, and documentation.
  • Assist with incident investigations, corrective action tracking, and audit readiness.
  • Support EHS training materials and safety communication initiatives.
  • Coordinate with cross-functional teams to advance EHS programs and compliance activities.
  • Complete additional tasks and projects as assigned by the EHS team.
