About The Position

This position is for an engineering support role focused on transportation engineering. The candidate must be enrolled in an engineering or related science degree program at an accredited college or university recognized by TX PELS. The role involves assisting in various engineering tasks such as construction or maintenance inspection, laboratory work, and data collection. Employees will perform assignments under specific instructions and will be subject to frequent review by their immediate supervisor.

Requirements

• Must be enrolled in an engineering or related science degree program in an accredited college or university accepted by TX PELS.
• Must be at least 16 years of age.
• Must be a student currently enrolled in high school or any institution of higher education.
• Employees at least 18 years of age with a valid driver's license may be assigned driving duties.

Nice To Haves

• Some skill in research and analysis methodologies.
• Ability to follow verbal and written instructions.
• Experience with data entry and basic mathematical fundamentals.

Responsibilities

• Compiles information from microfilm records and other archival materials.
• Develops spreadsheets, databases, and other electronic documents.
• Gathers basic data and assists with routine statistical analysis.
• Inspects construction methods and workmanship to ensure compliance with plans and specifications.
• Inspects materials, equipment, and production procedures in a manufacturing plant and conducts laboratory tests.
• Inspects routine maintenance contract work.
• Obtains material samples for analysis and assists with routine lab testing.
• Performs data entry and computer-aided analysis.
• Performs mechanical and electrical repairs.
• Performs survey work such as positioning rod and chain.
• Performs traffic counts and gathers related traffic and accident data.
• Prepares base sheets, details, specifications, and estimates for landscape construction projects.
• Processes various construction-related documents and maintains construction project records.
• Uses drafting equipment and performs hand or computer-aided drafting and calculating work.
• Performs other job responsibilities as assigned.
