About The Position

The Engineering Support Intern position at TxDOT's El Paso District is a part-time, entry-level role designed for college students pursuing an engineering or related science degree. The intern will assist with various transportation engineering support tasks, including design, construction inspection, laboratory work, and data collection. This internship provides valuable hands-on experience to help students kickstart their careers in engineering.

Requirements

• Must be at least 16 years old.
• Must be a U.S. Citizen or eligible to work in the U.S.
• Currently enrolled in at least 9 credit hours in an engineering or related science degree program in an accredited college or university accepted by TX PELS.

Responsibilities

• Assist with transportation engineering support work such as design, construction or maintenance inspection, and laboratory work.
• Gather basic data and assist with routine statistical analysis.
• Inspect construction methods and workmanship to ensure compliance with plans and specifications.
• Inspect materials, equipment, and production procedures in a manufacturing plant and conduct laboratory tests.
• Obtain material samples for analysis and assist with routine lab testing, including operation and cleaning of laboratory equipment.
• Perform mechanical and electrical repairs.
• Conduct traffic counts and gather related traffic and accident data.
• Prepare required worksheets and inspection reports.
• Process various construction-related documents and maintain project records.
• Use drafting equipment and perform hand or computer-aided drafting and calculating work.
