About The Position

The Engine Test Lab Intern at INNIO Waukesha Gas Engines will support daily operations within a research and development engine testing environment. This role provides hands‑on experience with engines, instrumentation, and test equipment while working alongside experienced technicians and engineers. The intern will assist with Engine builds, test preparation, equipment setup, and routine maintenance activities that support engine performance and durability testing. This position is designed for students enrolled in an associate degree program in Mechanical Engineering Technology, Electrical Engineering Technology, Mechatronics, or a related technical field who enjoy practical, hands‑on work and want exposure to real‑world engine testing.

Requirements

  • Currently enrolled in a two‑year associate degree program in Mechanical Engineering Technology, Electrical Engineering Technology, Mechatronics, or a related field
  • Strong interest in engines, mechanical systems, electrical systems, or test environments, automotive repair, or equipment maintenance
  • Good mechanical aptitude and willingness to work hands‑on with tools measurement devices and machining equipment
  • Basic understanding of mechanical or electrical principles taught in first‑year coursework
  • Ability to work safely and follow detailed procedures
  • Effective communication and teamwork skills

Responsibilities

  • Assist with engine maintenance activities such as subsystem builds, component changeovers and parts inspection
  • Help maintain inventory for protype and consumable parts for lab test engines
  • Assist with preparing engine test cells, including installing sensors, routing cables, and verifying test equipment readiness
  • Support technicians and engineers during test execution, including monitoring test conditions and performing basic data checks
  • Learn and perform basic instrumentation tasks such as connecting thermocouples, pressure transducers, and flow sensors
  • Help organize and verify incoming engine build parts for quantity, dimensional specification and prep for build readiness
  • Maintain orderly work areas following 6S including (safety) standards
  • Support documentation efforts including equipment logs, test setup records, and procedural updates
  • Follow all safety procedures, PPE requirements, and test lab operating rules
