As an Electrical Engineering Intern, you will support our electrical engineering team in designing and implementing electrical systems for major infrastructure projects. This is an opportunity to gain hands-on experience in a collaborative environment while working on real-world projects that impact communities. Our Kansas City office is seeking an Intern Electrical Engineer for Summer 2026. Assists engineer teams in various tasks and duties. Assists Engineer with research, development and design of projects. Assists Engineer with the preparation of engineering drawings and documents as assigned. Performs other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma/GED or equivalent plus current enrollment in an accredited post-secondary engineering program
  • Understands engineering, geometric, and algebraic principles at a basic level.
  • Shows proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Accepts and applies direction from peers and supervisors.
  • Obtains an understanding of introductory shop drawing and submittal procedures and requirements.
  • Ability to perform basic engineering calculations
  • Ability to organize information for use in drawings or other documents

Nice To Haves

  • Completion of 2 years of post-secondary engineering program
  • Strong interest in transportation-based electrical engineering
  • AutoCAD and/or MicroStation experience.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in designing electrical systems for transportation projects, including:
  • Roadway and tunnel lighting
  • Traffic signal systems
  • Power distribution and control systems
  • Perform basic engineering calculations (voltage drop, conduit sizing).
  • Prepare and update plans, specifications, and technical reports.
  • Support field investigations and data collection.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams and learn industry standards (NEC, NFPA, IEEE).
  • Utilize design tools such as MicroStation, AutoCAD, and lighting analysis software.
