About The Position

Advanced Energy is currently seeking Electrical Design Engineering Interns and Co-Ops to support development activities across our North American design sites. Successful candidates will carry out their internships at Advanced Energy's sites in Colorado, Minnesota, New York, or California. They will work with an experienced engineering team, closely collaborating on the development of high-performance, precision, efficient and cost-effective power conversion, metrology, or controls solutions. Both undergraduate and post-graduate candidates will be considered for fall and School-year internships. Candidates should be actively pursuing degree programs at one of the following institutions: University of Colorado, Colorado State University, University of Minnesota, University at Buffalo, Rochester Institute of Technology, California Polytechnic State University, San Jose State University, Massachusetts Institute of Technology, or Stanford University.

Requirements

  • Majors in electrical engineering or related fields, with a strong academic record
  • Knowledge in electrical engineering fundamentals, with hands-on experience
  • Prior experience in power electronics or embedded systems (experience in plasma science is a plus)
  • Proficiency in physics, mathematics, and coding
  • Creativity, adaptability, and effective problem-solving skills
  • Eagerness to take on challenges and excel in a fast-paced, collaborative environment

Nice To Haves

  • Prior experience in power electronics or embedded systems (experience in plasma science is a plus)

Responsibilities

  • Designing and implementing electrical circuits and printed circuit boards (PCBs)
  • Assembling and testing surface-mount PCBs
  • Conducting automated testing of electrical components using computer-controlled data collection
  • Analyzing collected data and visualizing results in Python
  • Developing mechanical systems and designing 3D models for project applications
  • Testing high-voltage circuits (up to tens of kilovolts)
  • Engaging in research on advanced technologies, including plasma applications
  • Additional tasks as needed to support project deliverables
