About The Position

The Distributed Intelligence (DI) team is looking for a 2025 summer intern. DI from Itron helps utilities achieve a new level of distribution system visibility by combining granular data from the grid's edge with an open-enterprise application platform. We are working on implementing and improving several unique capabilities such as high impedance detection, transformer load management, bypass-theft detection, active temperature monitoring of meters, Distributed Energy Resource (DER) integration and much more. Your work will help Itron push the boundaries on grid optimization, asset management, DER integration and customer engagement. Duration: 40 hours per week, for 10 weeks during summer 2025. The target start is May/June, and the internship concludes August/September, depending on student academic schedule.

Requirements

  • Education: Enrolled in a related accredited bachelor's degree program (preference: STEM degree, statistics, data science, software engineering etc.) with completion of at least two years of college courses
  • Intermediate experience with SQL and Python
  • Experience with statistical methods and data analysis
  • Exposure to machine learning via classes, independent projects, or work experience
  • Professional workplace communication skills

Nice To Haves

  • Understanding of power systems
  • Related internship or work experience
  • Enrolled in a related master's degree program (preference: STEM degree, statistics, data science, software engineering etc.)
  • Familiarity with Tableau or Power BI
  • Familiarity with Machine learning libraries like scikit-learn or XGBoost

Responsibilities

  • Extract and conduct data analysis of moderate-sized data sets (10s of GB)
  • Review and evaluate data from production machine learning systems and explore methods to improve algorithms to be more performant
  • Engage with team to review results, conduct error investigations, and create reports
  • Collaborate with data scientists, software engineers, product line managers and stakeholders
  • Develop dashboards/reports that provide useful insights to internal/external stakeholders
  • Give internship summary presentation and recommendations for team during final week
