About The Position

Under the general direction of the Director of Community Outreach, the Community Outreach Intern will actively participate in the Community Outreach team’s initiatives, supporting the organization’s mission through community engagement, education, and outreach efforts. Throughout the internship, the intern will have the opportunity to gain hands-on experience by contributing to meaningful projects, assisting with events and campaigns, supporting administrative needs, and helping advance department priorities. The Community Outreach Intern must be available to work a minimum of 20 hours a week. Flexibility in scheduling is required. The typical schedule will be Monday - Friday during normal business hours, with occasional evening or weekend event support as needed.

Requirements

  • Candidates for the Community Outreach Intern position must be pursuing a Bachelor’s degree. Preferred majors include Communications, Public Health, Marketing, Nonprofit Management, or related fields.
  • Current Junior or Senior status in college.
  • Must have a strong interest in community outreach, public service, and nonprofit work.
  • Must have a working knowledge of Microsoft Excel and Word.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • A team player with a can-do attitude.
  • GPA minimum of 3.0.
  • Valid driver’s license, automobile and ability to travel throughout the state of Maryland.
  • Local candidates only, stipend will not be provided.
  • Flexibility in scheduling is required.
  • Must be available to work a minimum of 20 hours a week.

Nice To Haves

  • Previous event volunteer experience a strong plus.
  • Database experience preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Conducting research on community outreach topics, gathering data, and contributing to reports, presentations, and outreach materials.
  • Assisting in the development and implementation of community outreach initiatives and The Decision Project campaigns for the community.
  • Participating in outreach activities to promote community programs, services, and resources.
  • Collaborating with team members to organize and support workshops, seminars, community events, and outreach activities.
  • Providing support in data entry, tracking, and evaluation of community outreach programs and initiatives.
  • Assisting in the coordination of outreach efforts through The Decision Project, including support for social media pages, community engagement activities, and inquiries related to fundraising opportunities.
  • Engaging in community surveys and feedback efforts to help assess community needs and support program improvement.
  • Collaborating with local organizations and stakeholders to foster partnerships and identify fundraising opportunities that support Community Outreach and The Decision Project initiatives.
  • Participating in team meetings and workshops to enhance knowledge and skills in community outreach, engagement, and nonprofit operations.
  • Works in close collaboration with other members of the Community Outreach department and provides administrative support as needed.
