ROLE SUMMARY Reporting to the Manager of Communication, the Communication Intern (Unpaid) plays an important role in writing, operations, and the development of content generation for Alliance’s internal and external communications and efforts. As a member of the Communications Team, the person in this position will write a variety of content, including but not limited to: newsletter communications to staff, support with intranet and website updates, and interviewing staff and scholars for feature stories highlighting the work and success at Alliance. The Communication Intern (Unpaid) should be someone who loves storytelling and can produce high-quality content quickly, is collaborative, has an eye on equity in all written and verbal communications, and is passionate about educational equity in Los Angeles. The Communication Intern will be managed by the Director of Communication.

  • Must be based in the Greater Los Angeles area as travel throughout Los Angeles is required; valid driver’s license and automobile.

Responsibilities

  • Support with internal and external emails, staff newsletters, and other written communications.
  • Create inspiring content tailored to internal and external audiences while ensuring it reflects Alliance’s values of diversity, equity, and inclusion.
  • Support the integration of a unified brand to ensure Alliance's mission is being delivered across multiple platforms to amplify messaging.
  • Interview and develop a network of relationships with staff and scholars to create compelling communications content.
  • Support with social media content, as needed.
  • Maintain and update the internal site.
  • Collaborate on writing projects with other members of the Communications Team as well as other team members from across the organization.
  • Conduct research to identify which strategies are most effective and where we can improve to strategically amplify messaging.
  • Perform additional related duties as assigned.
