Commerce Bank's summer internship program provides students a chance to gain real-world experience in a dynamic and supportive environment. We believe in immersing our interns in all aspects of our business, giving them firsthand experience working in the financial industry. Interns are involved in strategic projects, participate in company initiatives, interact with leadership teams and will develop strong networks with business professionals, internally and externally. Projects will be hands-on and real-world, varying to the work assignments. Interns also participate in weekly lunch-and-learns, community service activities, and sponsored outings. The intern will be placed in the Commerce Bank's Agribusiness group in Central Illinois (Bloomington). The Agribusiness Group is engaged in the development and management of a portfolio of agribusiness clients, primarily in the Midwest. Our clients are engaged in various sectors of the agriculture industry including grain origination, farm supply wholesale and retail, farm equipment retail and equipment financing, and agriculture production. Commerce provides a diverse suite of solutions to our customers including commercial lending services, treasury and cash management, commercial payments and card products. The summer internship session will begin on Tuesday, May 19, 2026, and will run for 11 weeks, ending on Friday, July 31, 2026. Internships are paid, full-time opportunities with a Monday through Friday work schedule.

  • Organize and undertake a series of special projects related to credit underwriting and client communications and management
  • Provide a supporting role to credit underwriting
  • Participate in credit related trainings and meetings
  • Involvement in both client and prospect appointments
  • Have the opportunity to travel to Commerce Bank locations in Kansas City and/or St. Louis
  • Attend networking/personal development events
  • Shadow other areas of the bank, including retail banking, trust and payments
  • Knowledge or background in agriculture and/or exposure to Agribusiness Marketplace preferred
  • Attention to detail with strong organizational skills
  • Ability to remain adaptable and resilient to all situations with an optimistic outlook and cast a positive shadow that is aligned with our culture and Core Values
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Proficient skills in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint)
  • Must be eligible to work in the US without sponsorship
