About The Position

The Clinical Development Intern will be an integral part of our eyecare clinical research projects. This role is essential in supporting the clinical development team and contributing to the design and development of study protocols for eyecare clinical trials. Under the guidance of the clinical development team, the summer intern will engage in various clinical development activities and collaborate with cross-functional teams, gain hands-on experience with real ophthalmic imaging datasets and get exposed to computational methods in biomedical, vision science and ophthalmology image analysis. Let’s talk about some of the key responsibilities of the role:

Requirements

  • Currently pursuing a graduate degree in Computer Science, System Design Engineering, Data Science, Electrical/Computer Engineering, Applied Mathematics, or related fields
  • Strong programming skills in Python, MATLAB, or similar languages
  • Experience with image processing and analysis libraries/tools (e.g. PyTorch, TensorFlow, Keras, OpenCV (cv2), NumPy, Matplotlib, Pandas)
  • Strong organizational, and communication skills
  • Strong analytical thinking, prioritization, attention to detail, and problem-solving skills
  • A willingness to try new things and voice thoughts, considerations, and concerns

  • Proficient on basic Microsoft suite computer programs such as Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint
  • Basic statistical knowledge

Responsibilities

  • Contribute to clinical development activities by developing image-processing machine learning models and pipelines for ophthalmic images, including feature extraction, segmentation, and automated grading using clinical scales
  • Using quantitative tools for image analysis (e.g. imageJ)
  • Employing Python and quantitative tools (e.g. ImageJ) to automate analysis tasks, increasing throughput, reproducibility, and consistency of imaging data
  • Assist with data review, perform data analysis, and prepare summaries, visualizations, instructional materials, and clinical study reports of computational findings
  • Conduct research on scientific topics, regulatory information, and/or competitive intelligence while collaborating with Clinical Trial Study Managers to assist with clinical operations projects
  • Interact with Clinical Trial Study Manager/Clinical Research Associate to gain exposure to the collaborative development process associated with executing a clinical trial
