About The Position

An exciting opportunity is available to join Gewalt Hamilton Associates (GHA), an employee-owned, multi-faceted civil engineering and land surveying company that has built a reputation of civil engineering with a personal approach. We are seeking a Civil Design Intern to join our growing Civil Design team in Vernon Hills, IL. How you will make an impact: The Civil Design Intern will report to the Service Lead, Intern Coordinators, Squad Lead, and HR. The Civil Design Intern will be involved in engineering design, AutoCAD drafting, data collection, construction observation and production efforts on a variety of municipality projects for State, County, and Local Agencies. This role is a non-exempt, hourly position.

Requirements

  • Currently pursuing a bachelor's degree in civil engineering or in a related field.
  • Valid driver’s license
  • Self-starter

  • Detail-oriented individual who takes pride in producing high-quality individual work products.
  • Ability to work independently with general supervision and as part of a larger team.
  • Self-starting, detail-oriented individual, with organizational and interpersonal skills.

  • The ability to manage multiple projects.
  • Clearly and concisely communicate both orally and in writing.
  • Be proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Planner, Teams).

Responsibilities

  • Assist with civil design projects and municipal/site projects including geometrics, profiles/grading, detention calculations, utility coordination, observation and documentation.
  • Perform and document field investigations.
  • Assist the Water Resources Division with Municipal Separate Storm Sewer Systems (MS4).
  • Utilize AutoCAD/Civil3D software to assist with drawings.
  • Visit project sites to assist construction observation duties.
  • Assist the Water Resources Division with hydrologic and hydraulic modeling and storm sewer design.
  • Work in a team setting with other team members within all divisions of the company.
  • Responsible for meeting assigned project goals, objectives, and ensuring on schedule accurate completion.
  • Ensure that the company policies and procedures are practiced during employment.
