About The Position

The Chemistry Intern is a temporary role providing broad work experience in performing a variety of chemistry tasks of limited scope and complexity. The intern will rotate through various work assignments, including outages. Under the guidance of supervision and their assigned mentors, interns will develop job skills and will learn about the duties of various Chemistry Technician tasks in order to help them make career decisions. They will complete training on industry-related topics. Interns will complete designated Electric Power Research Institute (EPRI) courses including Basic Chemistry Analysis and will complete designated Chemistry Standardized Task Evaluations (STE) within the first 3 months. The Palo Verde Chemistry Intern Program is a six-month program from July through December. This position operates on a rotating shift schedule and requires availability for both day and night shifts.

Requirements

  • High School graduate or GED.
  • At least 18 years of age.
  • Current Arizona resident.
  • Must be able to satisfy applicable NRC, security, physical and psychological requirements to work within the protected area.

  • Good communications and interpersonal skills.

Responsibilities

  • Completes Palo Verde Systems Overview course, designated Electric Power Research Institute (EPRI) courses and associated exams. In addition, completes selected site qualifications, a final interview and practical exam.
  • Embraces the Palo Verde safety culture, including: using Prevent Events tools, participating in pre-job briefings, reporting unsafe conditions, using personal protective equipment (PPE), avoiding injury, avoiding contamination, observing "As Low As Reasonably Achievable" (ALARA) strategies and demonstrating safety awareness.
  • Sets high goals and seeks out opportunities to achieve results, including: maintaining a positive attitude, using self-checking, demonstrating professionalism, avoiding security violations, observing "Do It Right The First Time" philosophy, using the right tools for the job and demonstrating skill and ability with hand tools.
  • Works effectively with the team and other work groups, including: working positively with others to achieve common goals, working together to ensure safety and quality and demonstrating a positive attitude while working with others.
  • Maintains effectiveness in varying environments with different tasks, responsibilities and people, including: working well with others, participating actively in training, providing feedback, attending as scheduled, maintaining a positive attitude, adapting to changing expectations of various departments and responding positively to unexpected changes.
  • Expresses ideas clearly and effectively, including: having a questioning attitude, using the phonetic alphabet in communications when required, using three-legged communications when required, and maintaining open lines of communications with mentors.
  • Demonstrates keen desire to learn and understand, including: arriving on time to assigned duties, having a questioning attitude, and demonstrating willingness to listen and take direction.
