About The Position

The Chemistry Intern is a temporary role providing broad work experience in performing a variety of chemistry tasks of limited scope and complexity.
The intern will rotate through various work assignments, including outages.
Under the guidance of supervision and their assigned mentors, interns will develop job skills and will learn about the duties of various Chemistry Technician tasks in order to help them make career decisions.
They will complete training on industry-related topics.
Interns will complete designated Electric Power Research Institute (EPRI) courses including Basic Chemistry Analysis and will complete designated Chemistry Standardized Task Evaluations (STE) within the first 3 months.
The Palo Verde Chemistry Intern Program is a six-month program from July through December.
This position operates on a rotating shift schedule and requires availability for both day and night shifts.

Requirements

• High School graduate or GED.
• At least 18 years of age.
• Current Arizona resident.
• Must be able to satisfy applicable NRC, security, physical and psychological requirements to work within the protected area.

Nice To Haves

• Basic math and high school algebra skills.
• Good communications and interpersonal skills.

Responsibilities

• Completes Palo Verde Systems Overview course, designated Electric Power Research Institute (EPRI) courses and associated exams. In addition, completes selected site qualifications, a final interview and practical exam.
• Embraces the Palo Verde safety culture, including: using Prevent Events tools, participating in pre-job briefings, reporting unsafe conditions, using personal protective equipment (PPE), avoiding injury, avoiding contamination, observing "As Low As Reasonably Achievable" (ALARA) strategies and demonstrating safety awareness.
• Sets high goals and seeks out opportunities to achieve results, including: maintaining a positive attitude, using self-checking, demonstrating professionalism, avoiding security violations, observing "Do It Right The First Time" philosophy, using the right tools for the job and demonstrating skill and ability with hand tools.
