Our mission is to electrify global thermal systems across data centers, manufacturing, and energy industries. Karman is developing the revolutionary Heat Processing Unit (HPU) to reinvent thermal handling for giga-scale data centers & AI factories. The HPU is built around a supercritical CO2 chiller system utilizing a high-speed electrically driven turbomachinery core. Our system aims to reduce energy consumption in data center thermal management by greater than 25% and increase energy density by 10x. Job Description We are seeking a highly technical Business Intelligence Intern to build and operationalize our core data infrastructure and reporting systems. This role is focused on execution —you will implement defined KPIs, integrate systems, and enable reliable, scalable reporting across the company. You will work directly with leadership to translate defined metrics and business requirements into a functioning data pipeline and reporting environment.

Requirements

  • Strong SQL skills
  • Experience working with APIs and data ingestion (REST APIs, JSON, etc.)
  • Experience with a BI tool (Power BI, Tableau, Looker, etc.)
  • Ability to work with messy, unstructured data and make it usable
  • Comfortable building end-to-end systems for data use: ingestion → transformation → dashboard

Nice To Haves

  • Experience setting up a data warehouse or BI stack from scratch
  • Familiarity with tools like Power Automate, Zapier, or similar
  • Experience integrating SaaS tools (JIRA, finance systems, HR systems, etc.)
  • Exposure to operations-heavy environments (manufacturing, hardware, logistics)
  • Basic scripting experience (Python or similar)

Responsibilities

  • Integrate core systems via APIs and exports to corporate SQL database
  • Build and maintain data pipelines (ingestion, transformation, storage) to support reliable reporting
  • Implement defined KPI logic into clean, consistent data models
  • Identify and fix data quality issues, and enforce standardized schemas, naming, and required fields across systems
  • Build and maintain Power BI dashboards for executive and operational reporting
  • Automate recurring reporting workflows and data processes to reduce manual effort
  • Set up data governance, including role-based access controls, security groups, and SCIM-based provisioning
  • Document data architecture, pipelines, and dependencies for maintainability and scale
