About The Position

AST SpaceMobile is building the first and only global cellular broadband network in space to operate directly with standard, unmodified mobile devices based on our extensive IP and patent portfolio and designed for both commercial and government applications. Our engineers and space scientists are on a mission to eliminate the connectivity gaps faced by today’s five billion mobile subscribers and finally bring broadband to the billions who remain unconnected. Position Overview The Battery Data Integration & Traceability Intern will develop an end-to-end data integration and traceability system that connects battery production, test, and deployment data across the full hardware lifecycle. This role focuses on building software tools and data pipelines that consolidate information from multiple internal and external sources to enable complete traceability from satellite systems down to individual battery cells. The intern will design a centralized data architecture that links cell-level, pack-level, Micron-level, and satellite-level records while enabling automated validation, reporting, and compliance checks. This work directly supports manufacturing quality assurance, configuration control, supplier oversight, and long-term fleet reliability for flight hardware.

Requirements

  • Enrolled in a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree program in Engineering, Computer Science, Data Science, or a related technical discipline
  • Hands-on programming experience in Python
  • Experience working with relational databases (SQL or similar)
  • Experience manipulating structured or semi-structured datasets
  • Exposure to data cleaning, ETL processes, or analytics workflows

Nice To Haves

  • Academic or project experience with hardware systems, manufacturing data, or batteries is a plus
  • Coursework or projects in data engineering, data architecture, or systems engineering
  • Experience building dashboards or visualization tools (e.g., Power BI, Tableau, Plotly, or similar)
  • Familiarity with APIs, automated data ingestion, or scripting for system integration
  • Understanding of manufacturing operations, quality assurance, or configuration management
  • Interest in aerospace, energy storage, or hardware production environments
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • High attention to detail and commitment to data accuracy
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple tasks
  • Clear technical documentation and communication skills
  • Collaborative mindset when working with cross-functional engineering and manufacturing teams

Responsibilities

  • Develop scripts and data pipelines to extract information from multiple internal and external databases
  • Clean, normalize, and structure large datasets from heterogeneous sources
  • Design and implement a centralized data schema linking cells, battery packs, Microns, and satellites
  • Build query tools and reporting utilities to enable satellite-to-cell and cell-to-satellite traceability
  • Implement automated validation checks to verify test completion, configuration accuracy, and data integrity
  • Support validation of externally manufactured battery packs and associated documentation
  • Perform manual data audits and discrepancy resolution as needed
  • Create dashboards or automated reports to monitor production readiness and compliance
  • Document data sources, system architecture, assumptions, and processing logic for maintainability
