About the position

Join Gannett Fleming as an Automation Electrical Engineering Intern and gain real-world experience in a dynamic environment. This internship, running from mid-May through mid-August, offers the opportunity to work with a dedicated electrical team focused on creating efficient and innovative solutions for electrical systems. Interns will receive mentorship from experienced engineers while contributing to various projects that emphasize sustainability and performance optimization.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct site surveys and collect field data to support automation design, including control panel details, wiring schematics, and process & instrumentation diagrams (P&IDs).
  • Assist in the development of automation architecture, PLC programming, and HMI applications, ensuring compliance with industrial communications and cybersecurity standards.
  • Participate in client meetings and project discussions while supporting industrial fabrication, factory testing of control systems, and data center/server configuration.

Requirements

  • Enrolled in an ABET-accredited bachelor's or graduate Electrical, Mechanical, or Industrial Engineering or related program.
  • Demonstrated interest in the automation industry.
  • Strong data analysis and problem-solving skills.
  • Self-motivated and eager to learn.
  • Strong verbal and oral communication skills.
  • Physically able to perform work in the field, if applicable (OSHA training a plus).

Nice-to-haves

  • Proficiency in BIM, Civil 3D, or AutoCAD.
  • Focus or coursework related to automation and controls.
  • Prior engineering related internship or similar experience.
  • Basic understanding of electrical and mechanical systems.
  • Involvement with professional associations, on-campus groups, and/or community service initiatives.
