About The Position

The Intern, Automation & AI Development will support the Process Development (PD) team by building tools that automate the drafting of PD reports using existing batch data sources. Today, PD reports are created manually after completion of each run. This intern will leverage data from Excel‑based Batch Development Records (BDRs) and Tech Transfer worksheets to streamline report generation using programming languages (e.g., Python, Java, C++) or AI‑assisted interfaces. This role offers hands-on experience with data automation, machine learning concepts, and real-world application of digital tools within a CGMP‑aligned development environment. We're thrilled to provide a 10-week paid internship at our facility in Tustin, CA. As an intern, you'll dive deep into our team culture, take on significant projects, and play a vital role in our team's dynamics. This temporary, 40-hour per week office position is designed to offer you a wealth of experience and the chance to connect with professionals in the industry.

Requirements

  • Currently pursuing a degree in Biotechnology, Biology, Biochemistry, Chemical Engineering, Bioengineering, or related field.
  • Familiarity with data handling in Excel, including structured datasets and formula logic.
  • Interest or foundational knowledge in AI/ML tools or language‑model‑assisted automation.
  • Ability to learn and apply new digital tools, libraries, or data‑processing frameworks.
  • Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills with attention to detail.
  • Ability to translate requirements into functional scripts, workflows, or automation concepts.
  • Clear written and verbal communication skills.
  • Availability to work full-time for the duration of the internship at our Tustin, CA facility.
  • Authorization to work in the country where the internship is located.

Responsibilities

  • Extract, organize, and analyze data from Excel‑based Process Development BDRs and Tech Transfer worksheets.
  • Develop automated workflows or scripts to populate PD report templates using structured batch data.
  • Evaluate and apply coding languages (Python, Java, C++, etc.) or AI/ML tools to support report automation and document generation.
  • Prototype, test, and refine automation approaches to improve accuracy, efficiency, and usability.
  • Collaborate with PD scientists and data owners to understand reporting requirements and ensure output quality.
  • Document workflows, code, and processes to support reproducibility and future enhancements.
  • Assist with additional digital transformation or process automation projects as needed.
