What You’ll Do: The duties listed below are intended only as illustrations of the various types of work that may be performed in this position. They are not intended to prescribe or restrict the assignments that management may make.

  • Assist with all aspects of design for New Construction Projects, Modernization Projects, Forensic Engineering Investigations, and more!
  • Participate in design project initiation meetings with Studio staff and other Consultants.
  • Assist with defining design project scopes, schedules, and budgets.
  • Assist with field surveys of existing buildings, focusing on gathering existing conditions information for our design work.
  • Develop, refine, and correct technical drawing packages under the guidance of Design & Performance Studio staff, including drawing existing conditions, adapting standard details, and developing new details.
  • Assist with Building Code analyses, including learning to interpret and apply code requirements to specific design projects.
  • Assist with selecting appropriate products and materials for each unique design project, and learn about developing technical specifications.
  • Collaborate with Design & Performance Studio staff and other Consultants on real-world design problems.
  • Learn to manage time effectively.
  • Learn the fundamentals of project cost tracking and invoicing.
  • Learn to build and maintain relationships with clients, (internal and external), including effective communication skills.
  • Perform necessary administrative tasks.
  • Participate in reviewing learning modules.
  • May produce a capstone presentation to discuss experience and learning as an Intern.
  • High School Diploma/Equivalent
  • Current enrollment in a technical Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree program such as engineering, construction management, architecture, or related field required; must complete sophomore year before internship start date
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office.
  • Technical competency and an ability to effectively communicate and build rapport with co-workers.
  • A practical understanding of building structures.
  • Critical thinking skills, an innovative mindset, strong attention to detail, and a willingness to learn.
  • An ability to work both independently and collaboratively across the organization and be exposed to a variety of projects and processes
  • A high level of professionalism, flexibility and an ability to adapt in a changing, fast-paced environment working with internal coworkers
  • Professional verbal and written communication skills with all levels of the organization
  • Experience in Bluebeam and AutoCAD preferred.
  • Previous internship or work history in construction, engineering, or architectural firms (preferred).
