About The Position

The Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP) internship at Mental Health Cooperative (MHC) offers a unique opportunity for master's level nursing students to gain hands-on experience in providing clinical mental health services. Interns will work under the supervision of a preceptor, engaging in direct patient care, diagnosing psychiatric illnesses, and recommending appropriate psychotropic medications. This role emphasizes the application of evidence-based practices while supporting clients with severe mental health challenges, particularly those who are uninsured or underinsured.

Requirements

  • Must be a master's level student in an accredited advanced practice nursing program.
  • Commitment to a minimum of one semester and a maximum of three semesters.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in providing clinical mental health services to clients of all ages.
  • Perform direct patient care including diagnosing psychiatric illness.
  • Recommend psychotropic medication when appropriate and in accordance with standardized procedures.
  • Provide general counseling, guidance, and health instruction to clients and family members.
  • Complete clinical documentation in a timely manner consistent with agency standards.
  • Collaborate with other departments as part of the client's treatment team.
