About The Position

The AI Strategy & Development Intern will work directly with the Director of Digital Strategy to advance Nelnet Business Services' enterprise AI initiatives. This role blends strategic analysis, program coordination, and hands-on exploration of emerging AI technologies. The intern will help support the rollout of AI literacy and engineering programs, contribute to AI strategy through the Center of Excellence, and assist with targeted internal improvement projects. This is an ideal opportunity for a business-minded student with proven experience using frontier AI models and a passion for technology-driven innovation.

Requirements

• Pursuing a degree in Business, Communications, Data Science, Computer Science or a related field.
• Current standing Junior or above preferred.
• Direct, hands-on experience with frontier AI models (e.g., GPT-4/5, Claude, Gemini, Mistral, Llama).

Nice To Haves

• Experience with advanced AI tools, frameworks, or APIs for building and integrating AI solutions.
• Experience with data analysis, market research, or strategic planning is a plus.
• Strong interest in the business applications of AI.

Responsibilities

• Support the planning, coordination, and execution of enterprise AI initiatives, including AI Literacy Program for associates and AI Engineering Upskilling Program(s).
• Contribute to AI strategy workstreams through the Center of Excellence.
• Assist with selected internal AI-related process improvement projects.
• Conduct research on AI market trends, competitive benchmarks, and emerging tools relevant to Nelnet Business Services.
• Assist in preparing presentations, reports, and briefing materials for senior leadership.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to gather requirements, document processes, and track project progress.
• Support light prototyping and testing of AI-enabled tools or workflows (in partnership with technical teams).
• Help develop communications, guides, and resources to increase AI awareness and adoption.
