About The Position

Assists the ADA Services Department in activities related to NTD reporting requirements, self-evaluation, and assessment of system-wide accessibility related to built facilities used in the provision of services. Paid internship, maximum of 20 hours a week.

Requirements

  • Beginning knowledge of community relations, urban design, accessibility
  • Ability to assimilate narrative information into quantifiable data.
  • Detail-oriented with strong organizational skills.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing.
  • Works effectively with co-workers, clients, customers, and others by sharing ideas in a constructive and positive manner.
  • Keeps others informed of work progress, timetables, and issues.
  • Addresses problems and issues constructively to find mutually acceptable and practical solutions.
  • Ability to read and understand technical standards (drawings, specifications) and other related materials.
  • Experience in using a personal computer for word processing, spreadsheet, and presentation applications.
  • Ability to navigate facilities and utilize necessary tools, to complete required survey activities.

Responsibilities

  • Assists in the assessment, measurement, and recording of accessibility features associated with Metro platforms, facilities, and transit centers.
  • Assists in maintaining database of survey findings.
  • Assists in the development of survey inventory procedures and identifies needed equipment and materials.
  • Supports future completion of NTD reporting by collecting, sorting, classifying, and recording of reviewed facility features.
  • Photographs field activities and accessibility features that require alteration or replacement for future reference.
  • Develops thorough understanding of Section 810 Transportation Facility Requirements under the Americans with Disabilities Act Accessibility Standards and other applicable requirements in the Department of Transportation Standards.
  • Communicates work activities with project team members and assists in identifying/resolving potential schedule impacts.
  • Assists in communicating findings to internal and community stakeholders for analysis and feedback to determine course of remediations/alterations as necessary.
  • Complies with safety and other compliance obligations.
