About The Position

This Supervisory level position plans, directs and supervises grounds staff to complete cemetery care work assignments ensuring compliance with regulations and safety and ensuring cemetery services exceed customer expectations. Responsible for training and motivating the team.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or equivalent required
  • Valid state driver’s license with an acceptable driving history
  • At least five (5) years interment experience with increasing skill development and responsibilities required
  • Demonstrate environmental and safety regulation knowledge
  • Ability to operate heavy machinery such as a backhoe
  • Ability to operate hand-held tools and equipment, including, but not limited to a shovel, tamper, pick, rake, sledge hammer, lawn mower, weed trimmer and leaf blower
  • Ability to accurately use measuring devices (i.e. tape measure, yard-stick, etc.)
  • Ability to work in extreme weather conditions
  • Physically agile and dexterous
  • Ability to operate equipment in a safe and careful manner
  • Ability to effectively work with others to accomplish tasks
  • Ability to communicate effectively with associates, contractor personnel and client families
  • Basic computer skills to enable retrieving and responding to email communications

  • Bilingual in Spanish a preferred

Responsibilities

  • Implements and supervises the day to day interment activities that may include operating back hoes, shovels, driving all-terrain vehicles, and hand tools; proper identification and preparation of plots; installation and removal of lowering devices; set up, take-down of tents, chairs, signage, and ramps.
  • Adjusts weekly work schedule as needed, delegates assignments, assess work quality, and communicates expectations.
  • May have responsibilities for monument and marker foundations, installation, and maintenance.
  • Manages overtime expenses through effective work schedules; reviews time cards for accuracy and approves prior to deadline.
  • Ensures equipment is cleaned, maintained, and stored properly. Requests and coordinates equipment repair and replacement. Ensures supplies and flammable materials stored properly and compliant. Requests supplies.
  • Assures associates comply with OSHA and EPA regulations and work is performed with appropriate Personal Protective Equipment. Training staff in safe work techniques, use, maintenance, and storage of equipment.
  • Supports change initiatives, maintaining effectiveness when experiencing major changes in work responsibilities or environment; adjusts effectively to work within new work structures, processes, requirements or cultures.
  • Develop a strong, trusting, and reliable team. Understand team members career aspirations and provide assignments to develop skills and/or close gaps. Constructively address issues and provide tangible and appropriate feedback. Apply a proactive and collaborative management style in order to increase employee engagement and minimize turnover.
  • Ensures mandatory training is completed by staff prior to deadline. Responsible for screening candidates (internal and external) and hiring or promoting a skilled and effective staff. Recommends pay increases and career advancements.
