About The Position

Leidos’ Defense Sector is seeking an Intermediate Software Engineer to support an Army Program focused on delivering advanced capabilities for operational decision-making in complex and dynamic environments. The Intermediate Software Engineer contributes to the design, development, testing, and maintenance of software applications and services. This role is ideal for someone with a solid engineering foundation who is ready to take on more complex tasks, collaborate across teams, and influence technical decisions. The engineer will work in an agile environment, participate in code reviews, and help ensure high-quality, scalable, and maintainable solutions. Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related field with 2+ years of relevant experience or a Master’s degree with less than 2 years of experience. Additional experience may be considered in lieu of a degree.
  • Active Secret clearance with the ability to obtain a TS/SCI.
  • Proficiency in at least one modern programming language (e.g., Java, C#, Python, JavaScript/TypeScript).
  • Active Secret clearance with the ability to obtain a TS/SCI.
  • Experience with version control systems such as Git.
  • Understanding of software development methodologies, data structures, and algorithms.
  • Familiarity with RESTful APIs, microservices, or distributed systems.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment and communicate technical concepts clearly.

Nice To Haves

  • Knowledge of CI/CD pipelines and automated testing frameworks.
  • Exposure to containerization technologies such as Docker or Kubernetes.
  • Experience with relational and/or NoSQL databases.
  • Familiarity with front‑end frameworks (React, Angular, Vue) or back‑end frameworks (.NET, Spring, Django).
  • Strong problem‑solving skills and a passion for continuous learning.
  • Experience working in an agile or DevOps‑oriented environment.

Responsibilities

  • Develop, test, and maintain software features of moderate complexity with limited supervision.
  • Collaborate with senior engineers, product managers, and QA to refine requirements and deliver solutions.
  • Participate in code reviews, contribute constructive feedback, and follow established coding standards.
  • Troubleshoot and debug issues across development and test environments.
  • Contribute to technical documentation, including design notes, API references, and user guides.
  • Support integration, deployment, and CI/CD activities as part of the development lifecycle.
  • Write and maintain unit and integration tests to ensure code quality and reliability.
  • Assist in improving development processes, tools, and team workflows.
  • Begin taking ownership of small modules or components within the system architecture.
