About The Position

Contributes to the successful delivery of engineering and infrastructure projects by supporting the development, coordination, and execution of project control processes. This role plays a key part in monitoring project cost, schedule, and performance data, helping to ensure that deviations are identified early and addressed proactively. Working closely with cross-functional teams, it supports the implementation of control systems that improve reporting accuracy, enhance accountability, and promote data-driven decision-making throughout the project lifecycle.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, construction management, project management, finance, or a related discipline.
  • 1 to 3 years of relevant post education experience in project controls or related areas.
  • Basic knowledge of cost management processes including forecasting, accruals, earned value, and contingency management.
  • Familiarity with project scheduling techniques including critical path method, task sequencing, and float analysis.
  • Understanding of project lifecycle phases and how scope, budget, and schedule are managed across different stages.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, including use of pivot tables, formulas, and charts for data organization and analysis.
  • Experience using or supporting project scheduling tools such as Primavera P6 or Microsoft Project.
  • Ability to interpret budget, schedule, and performance data to identify trends and support project assessments.
  • Working knowledge of earned value metrics and basic variance analysis methods.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks and maintain accuracy in data handling.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with project managers, engineers, finance staff, and other team members.
  • Experience working with standardized reporting templates and dashboards.
  • Understanding of how project controls support decision-making, cost containment, and performance optimization.
  • Familiarity with financial systems or project accounting tools such as Oracle, SAP, or Deltek.
  • Ability to follow procedures while identifying exceptions or potential process improvements.
  • Experience supporting invoice validation, contract tracking, or procurement coordination from a controls perspective.
  • Commitment to learning advanced project control methodologies and applying best practices.
  • Ability to adapt to different project environments, control structures, and reporting requirements.
  • Experience supporting multidisciplinary teams and managing control documentation across projects.
  • Demonstrated problem-solving ability in identifying data discrepancies and supporting resolution.
  • Capable of delivering work with minimal oversight and escalating issues appropriately.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain project cost tracking tools and assist in updating forecasts, budgets, and committed cost logs based on inputs from project and finance teams.
  • Collect, organize, and analyze cost and schedule data to support periodic status reporting and project performance reviews.
  • Prepare draft earned value reports, progress curves, and key performance indicators using established templates and methods.
  • Support the updating of project schedules by entering task progress, forecast dates, and resource hours into scheduling systems.
  • Assist with identifying schedule slippages, cost overruns, and performance deviations and communicating findings to project leads.
  • Help coordinate the monthly cost reporting cycle by updating cost worksheets, preparing variance explanations, and validating financial data.
  • Participate in the review and processing of change requests, budget transfers, and contingency drawdowns.
  • Compile support documentation for invoice validation, accruals, and reconciliation between project controls and finance records.
  • Support internal and external audit activities by organizing and submitting requested project control records.
  • Assist with updating risk registers and issue logs by documenting new items, updating status, and tracking mitigation actions.
  • Contribute to stakeholder reports and presentations by preparing cost charts, schedule graphics, and status narratives.
  • Use reporting software such as Microsoft Excel, Power BI, or Oracle to prepare standardized dashboards and project summaries.
  • Monitor compliance with project control procedures and escalate non-compliant practices or inconsistencies.
  • Help coordinate project baseline reviews and re-baselining processes by compiling schedule, cost, and scope documentation.
  • Provide support to project managers and project controls leads by responding to data requests and supporting control-related tasks.
  • Track and manage deliverable due dates, action items, and milestone dependencies across assigned projects.
  • Participate in lessons learned sessions and help document key observations, challenges, and successful control practices.
  • Support efforts to improve reporting tools, templates, and systems by providing input based on project experience.
  • Maintain control documentation and project files in accordance with records management standards and audit readiness practices.
  • Assist in identifying opportunities for improving process efficiency or data accuracy within project controls workflows.
  • Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources, and conduct, and adhere to WSP’s Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures.
  • Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs.
