About The Position

The Intermediate HCAI Engineer position at MITRE involves driving research in AI and Machine Learning technologies to address human-AI interaction challenges and societal impacts. Requirements

• Typically requires a Bachelor's degree and a minimum of 2 years of related work experience; or an advanced degree with relevant experience; or equivalent combination of related education and work experience.
• Hands-on research experience with human-AI interaction topics such as Usability of AI systems, Explainable AI, Trust in AI, and AI risks and governance.
• Hands-on experience working with LLMs and understanding their capabilities and limitations.
• Proven ability to work independently to learn new technologies, techniques, processes, platforms, and systems.
• Strong written and verbal communications skills.
• Ability to obtain and maintain DoD Secret clearance.

Nice To Haves

• Advanced degree in Human Factors, Computer Science, Social Sciences, or related field.
• Experience with and/or passion for working with national security or the public sector.
• Track record of publications, reports, presentations, essays about human interactions with AI.
• Active DoD Top Secret/SCI clearance.
• Experience in Python or another programming language frequently used for AI/ML prototyping.

Responsibilities

• Assist MITRE in executing and applying research to solve challenging problems related to human-AI interaction and/or societal impacts of AI.
• Design and evaluate human interactions with LLM, AI, and ML technologies.
• Contribute to and communicate human-centered research on AI, including formal experimental research and observational/naturalistic research.
• Demonstrate academic and industry best practices for human-centered AI research.
