Due to expansion, our US business is currently seeking a Client Portfolio Manager to support and grow our U.S. Wealth business. Barings Client Portfolio Managers work in close partnership and coordination with investment teams and sales as well as other stakeholders within the organization as subject matter experts, focusing on business development, client servicing and product development for certain investment strategies. The ideal candidate combines strong investment knowledge with a client-centric mindset and the ability to communicate complex portfolio concepts clearly and confidently. The role is responsible for driving the development, product structuring and distribution of various investment strategies into the wealth channel. The candidate will be based in Charlotte, North Carolina, which is the preferred location, and will report directly to the Head of North America Insurance and Intermediary Distribution. New York or Boston may be considered as alternative locations if necessary.

Requirements

  • Proven experience (10+ years) of relevant work experience, ideally in either an investment management or investment specialist/product strategist/client portfolio manager role for U.S. Wealth
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills including an ability to assess and convey market dynamics, portfolio strategy and risk factors
  • Prior experience with alternative assets and private markets; familiarity with registered fund offerings vs. traditional private fund structures
  • An aptitude for public speaking in a variety of settings and audience sizes
  • An entrepreneurial drive and desire to be a team player
  • Strong organizational, facilitation and collaboration skills
  • Willingness to travel
  • Bachelor’s degree in finance, economics, or a related field.
  • Series 7, 63 required.

Nice To Haves

  • Relationships with wealth platforms or financial advisors preferred but not required
  • CFA designation preferred

Responsibilities

  • Take lead Client Portfolio Management role within our US Wealth business:
  • Act as primary investment-facing partner for U.S. wealth distribution channels, including strategic partners, platforms, and direct client relationships
  • Communicating investment strategies internally and externally with the goal of growing assets under management in our wealth offerings
  • Drive distribution efforts by articulating portfolio strategy, investment philosophy and performance outcomes
  • Develop a close partnership with investment teams in order to deepen knowledge and expertise and be effective as a portfolio manager proxy in interactions with sales colleagues and clients. This will include:
  • Attending investment team meetings
  • Serving as an active participant in meetings with current and prospective clients
  • Responding in a timely manner to client and prospect requests
  • Identify, lead and coordinate new product development and positioning initiatives
  • Help develop, maintain and prepare marketing and servicing materials for the U.S. Wealth platform. This will include pitch books and RFPs / DDQs as well as scheduled and ad-hoc updates and specific aspects of an investment strategy (e.g. monthly commentaries, market reviews, market outlook, performance reviews, portfolio positioning etc).
  • Create Thought Leadership materials, in cooperation with investment staff and Barings Marketing staff
