About The Position

This position is located in the Engineering Service at The San Diego VA Healthcare System main campus. The employee is responsible for implementation of the Interior Design Program in concert with other interior designers at the VA San Diego Healthcare System, which covers approximately 1 million square feet of space at the main hospital campus and associated leased community based outpatient clinics and administrative spaces.

  • Subject to background/security investigation.
  • Participation in the seasonal influenza vaccination program is a requirement for all Department of Veterans Affairs Health Care Personnel (HCP).
  • Participation in the COVID-19 vaccination program is a requirement for all Veterans Health Administration Health Care Personnel (HCP).
  • Time-In-Grade Requirement: Must have served 52 weeks at the GS-9 level for GS-11 position.

Nice To Haves

  • Undergraduate and Graduate Education in interior design or related field.
  • Passage of the National Council for Interior Design Qualification (NCIDQ) examination.
  • Experience in managing projects, developing cost estimates, and evaluating bid proposals.

Responsibilities

  • Establish and periodically update a resource library of furnishings, office furniture, draperies, wall coverings, floor coverings, finishes, colors, fabrics, etc.
  • Prepare and oversee the preparation of vendor sketches, perspectives or detailed plans to scale showing color schemes, furniture, furnishings, and wall decor for all projects requiring interior design services.
  • Select all associated items including furniture, furnishings, wall decor, floor and wall finishes and signage.
  • Monitor, modify and maintain an overall directional graphics and standardized signage system for the healthcare system.
  • Inspect the physical installation of products in construction and renovation projects related to interior design to ensure contractual compliance.
  • Develop scopes, produce documentation, drawings, specifications, criteria and cost estimates necessary to procure services or products.
  • Prepare the interior design budget request individually or in cooperation with other interior designers.
  • Serve as the Contracting Officer's Representative (COR) and administer contracted projects to ensure contractor compliance.
  • Conduct site visits during construction, prepare pre- and post-occupancy evaluation of site.
  • Coordinate activities with services such as Environmental Management Service, Logistics, and Office of Information and Technology.
  • Perform furniture layout and design related to both interior design service requests and project support.
  • Order products, materials and services, reconcile credit card transactions, and record purchases.
  • Use the engineering work order system to manage requests from numerous services.
