About The Position

The Interior Design Intern works simultaneously on a variety of projects supporting the Interior Design Studio staff in the daily operations and individual design teams throughout all phases of projects. As part of the SHM Internship Program, the incumbent will take part in a conceptual project that culminates at the end of the internship with a portfolio-worthy project presentation to all SHM Staff. Performs assignments under the direction of more experienced staff, including but not limited to project administration, schematic design, design development, and contract document administration Assists in computer production of preliminary plans and preparation of client presentations Researches and resources finish materials, furniture, lighting, and accessories, including phone calls, showroom visits, and other communications with vendors Generates schedules for project designers’ review Maintains physical and digital resources, including organization, updating, and maintaining inventory of finish library as well as product representative contact information Updates client folders and binders Applies established interior design standards Assists in the development of design solutions for review

Requirements

  • Must be pursuing a professionally accredited Bachelor’s degree in Interior Design, Architecture, or related field
  • Must have a car for the duration of the internship with a valid driver's license and auto insurance
  • Prior exposure to AutoCAD, Revit, and Sketch-Up
  • Proficient with technical detailing
  • Strong sketch capabilities

Nice To Haves

  • 3rd or 4th year interior design student preferred
  • Exposure or experience with Studio Designer preferred
