About The Position

We are seeking an Interior Design Assistant, under the Temporary Professional Staffing Services contract with the Department of Veterans Affairs. This project will provide professional staffing services to the Medical and Engineering Department’s capabilities at the Long Beach Veterans Affairs Healthcare System (LBVAHCS). Positions will be assigned to specific sections within the department, including Capital Development, Projects & Construction, Business Management, and Maintenance & Operations, and report to the respective Section Supervisor in support of medical center tasks. The position is on-site, 40 hours per week, 8 hours per day, based at LBVAHCS, located at 5901 E. 7th Street, Long Beach, CA 90822. The Interior Design Assistant will be a key personnel position for the Temporary Professional Staffing Services contract, working with the Interior Design Section of the Engineering Service, Planning Section as an Interior Design Assistant. Under the responsibility of the VA Supervisory Interior Designer, the Interior Design Assistant will oversee and assist with major project activations, moves, space planning, budgeting, preparing packages for furniture, finishes and equipment purchases, management of delivery and installation. The Supervisory Interior Designer shall review the completed work in terms of effectiveness in meeting all requirements.

Requirements

  • Authorization to permanently work in the United States without sponsorship.
  • Bachelor's Degree OR 8-10 years of relevant experience.
  • Familiarity with Patient Centered Care culture in healthcare.
  • Ability to review and interpret blueprints and specifications.
  • Skilled in free font drawing and drawing to scale when on a job site measuring for a project.
  • Expertise with recommendations for the selection, specification, procurement, and placement of furnishings.
  • AutoCAD, Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint & Outlook) are required.
  • Project Management Certification, Evidenced Based Design Accreditation and Certification and/or Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design.

Nice To Haves

  • Certifications such as National Council for Interior Design Qualification.
  • Microsoft Project & Revit are beneficial but not required.
  • Must be able to communicate effectively both in writing and verbally with a variety of contractors, management officials, vendors, Contracting Officers and Long Beach staff.

Responsibilities

  • Assist interior designers in developing design solutions for diverse healthcare and office spaces.
  • Prepare detailed AutoCAD drawings, plans, sketches, and presentation visuals.
  • Analyze architectural drawings and develop FF&E layouts aligned with codes and standards.
  • Interpret and review plans for compliance with VA standards and specifications.
  • Produce procurement packages including SOWs, specifications, budgets, and cost estimates.
  • Coordinate procurement activities, vendor communication, and delivery and installation schedules.
  • Maintain design resource library, project documentation, and procurement records.
  • Assist in managing activation orders for furnishings, equipment, and supplies.
  • Oversee installation activities, direct crews, and resolve punch list items.
  • Coordinate with stakeholders, support scheduling, and assist transition and move-in planning.
