The high level: In FY26, Reading Partners consolidated the Baltimore and DC regions into one Mid-Atlantic region to strengthen programming and financial sustainability. The Mid-Atlantic will have an Interim Managing Director to support the merging of the two regions through the initial year of the transition. The Interim Managing Director, Reading Partners Mid-Atlantic (MD), will act as a liaison with the school and D.C. Public School leaders in Washington, D.C. to maintain and enhance Reading Centers in FY26. They will serve as the primary point of contact with the district and support a local Program Manager who manages 12 AmeriCorps members serving the region. In collaboration with the Program Manager, they will work closely with the National Programs team to ensure program fidelity and oversight. The Interim MD will also play a key role in supporting local fundraising efforts to reach the goal of $1.5 million in private funding. They will report to an Executive Director based in Baltimore, MD, and collaborate to manage the integration of the advisory board in this newly imagined regional structure. This is an interim position and it ends on June 30, 2026. The role may be extended pending grant funding.

Requirements

  • Have 3+ years of senior-level leadership and managerial experience.
  • Must have experience working with nonprofits, school districts, government officials, and philanthropic organizations in the Washington D.C. area.
  • Experience leading a team of emerging and mid-level professionals in an education setting.
  • Adept at building relationships with community partners, policymakers, funders, and other supporters.
  • Track record of building strong and productive relationships with regional/national philanthropic organizations and individual donors.
  • Have demonstrated experience in planning, leading, and managing development projects, to achieve desired outcomes, and tracking and reporting on progress to leaders.
  • Demonstrate a commitment to fostering a dynamic and collaborative work environment.
  • Display a deep belief in our mission and root your work in our core values.
  • Ability to prove eligibility to work legally in the U.S. and that you are at least 18 years of age.

Nice To Haves

  • Are an AmeriCorps, Peace Corps, or other national service alum/alumna.
  • Have experience working in launch or growth phases of organizations.

Responsibilities

  • Liaise with school and district leaders to provide direct tutoring services in five Reading Centers in FY26.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact with the D.C. Public School District.
  • Coach and support the Washington, D.C. Program Manager in conjunction with the Mid-Atlantic Executive Director and the National Program team.
  • Provide oversight of program fidelity and ensure AmeriCorps member retention.
  • Partner with the assigned Regional Development Director to raise $1.5 million in private funding.
  • Partner with the Executive Director of the Mid-Atlantic region to ensure that regional advisory boards in Baltimore and Washington, D.C., integrate successfully.
