Johns Hopkins Intrastaff is the internal staffing agency for the Johns Hopkins Health System and partner hospitals, providing temporary support to a variety of Johns Hopkins locations. The nursing leader for the Department of Women's and Infants' Services (WIS) is responsible for operations, program planning, and strategy development. The position is accountable for the quality of nursing care delivered, planning, organizing, leading, and evaluating the nursing services within all departments within WIS. Additionally, responsible for fiscal management, development of short and long-term goals for nursing service, management of nursing staff, and providing nursing leadership in formulating and implementing objectives in alignment with the hospital's strategic plan and annual goals. Represents Sibley's mission to both the hospital and the community. Develops and implements a comprehensive, accessible service line with a reputation for outstanding quality and service excellence.

Requirements

In-depth knowledge of nursing theory, practice, and administration to plan and evaluate nursing standards and practice.
Knowledge of the science of patient safety and quality improvement processes.
Expert verbal, non-verbal, and written communication skills.
Advanced interpersonal skills necessary to provide effective leadership and collaboration within an interdisciplinary setting.
Ability to analyze data and synthesize information for problem solving and decision making.
Understanding of personal computers, hospital information systems, and patient care applications.
Knowledge of and ability to utilize financial data in the formulation of staffing plans, budgets, and business-related projects.
Ability to develop creative, exciting solutions to problems and to lead staff through the change process.
Bachelor's Degree in Nursing required, Master's Degree in Nursing or a health care-related field required. Licensed as a Registered Nurse in the District of Columbia.
Advanced administrative skills at a level generally acquired through five to seven years of progressively responsible nursing administration experience.
Knowledge and mastery of information systems and software commonly used in healthcare to support operational and clinical activities.
Experience in project development and implementation, to include both clinical and financial criteria required.
Current CPR Certification required.

Responsibilities

Develops a vision, mission statement, and objectives for Women and Infant's Health Services based on hospital goals, financial reality, and an assessment of the needs of the program's customers.
Remains abreast of new market and clinical information, adjusting Service objectives accordingly in order to ensure optimal clinical and financial outcomes.
Selects, orients, evaluates, and coaches patient care leaders and staff, ensuring an understanding of and adherence to practice standards and service principles.
Serves as a role model for staff, Service leaders, and physicians by participating in patient care issues, demonstrating effective problem-solving abilities, and utilizing flexible, creative interpersonal skills in furthering the objectives of the Service.
Ensures patient care quality by monitoring, evaluating, and continuously improving the patient care delivery system, in compliance with all federal and local guidelines/regulations and Joint Commission standards.
Provides leadership to the outreach programs within the Service line. Ensures that the lactation services and Childbirth Education program are based on sound educational principles applicable to the adult learner, that these programs reflect the changing needs of our community, and that measurable outcome monitors are developed and utilized at all times.
Develops a communication for the Service that ensures the timely, accurate, and appropriate sharing of clinical and fiscal information. Identifies and implements a network of communication methods to maximize the knowledge base of the staff at all levels. Utilizes these communication pathways to encourage input, commitment, and participation from staff, physicians, and patients.
Prepares and submits periodic reports to include Performance Improvement initiatives, clinical and organizational progress, suggestions for new and/or expanded programs. Prepares and monitors budgets for all aspects of the program, adjusting and modifying as circumstances change.
Oversees the development of educational goals for the Service and works with Team Leaders and the Department of Education and Training to ensure competency, provide growth opportunities, and enhance the knowledge base of all levels of staff.
Uses and role models current management techniques, encouraging the decision-making skills of staff members, and providing insight and leadership in complex situations.
Maintains a current and in-depth understanding of the Hospital's strategic plan, challenges, and opportunities. Incorporates this knowledge in planning for the Service and ensures that this information is disseminated to staff as appropriate.
Participates in the development of Service policies, schedules, and staffing decisions. Monitors for effectiveness and needed change.
Understands and enforces all hospital and personnel policies and procedures.
Serves on hospital and Patient Care Services committees as required.
