About The Position

The position is part of the State Resource Conservationist's staff at the Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) in Gainesville, FL. The incumbent will provide technical expertise in conservation planning, quality assurance, contracting, and the use of geographic information systems (GIS) such as ArcGIS. The role focuses on improving operational efficiency and effectiveness in conservation efforts and resolving issues related to conservation plans.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in biological sciences, agriculture, natural resource management, chemistry, or related disciplines, or a combination of education and experience.
• Specialized experience at the GS-09 level or higher in Federal service, or comparable experience not gained through Federal service.
• Experience in developing conservation plans for agricultural and metropolitan areas, and using GIS for work.

Nice To Haves

• Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree in a relevant field.
• Experience in reviewing contracts for compliance with laws and regulations.

Responsibilities

• Provide leadership and technical guidance to staff in conservation planning and application.
• Assess, develop, and provide training in ecological science practices to NRCS staff and external stakeholders.
• Analyze the quality and quantity of resource plans and their application in field offices.
• Assist in field office program appraisals.
• Act as an area NRCS representative to maintain positive working relations with federal, state, and local agencies.
