About the position

The Interdisciplinary Engineer position at the Naval Support Activity in Mechanicsburg, Philadelphia, PA, is a critical role within the Engineering Department of the Naval Supply Systems Command Weapon Systems Support (NAVSUP WSS). This position is designed for individuals who are eager to engage in a variety of engineering and technical functions that support the command's mission. As an Interdisciplinary Engineer, you will be responsible for applying engineering principles and theories to a broad range of technical and logistics functions. This includes generating and applying theories, principles, practical concepts, systems, and processes relevant to the engineering field. At the GS-07, GS-09, and GS-11 levels, you will perform developmental duties, while at the full performance level (GS-12), you will take on more complex responsibilities. Your role will involve coordinating with various Hardware Systems Commands, such as NAVAIR and NAVSEA, to ensure that technical requirements are met. You will assist in the development of specifications, statements of work, and test plans, providing essential technical input into Performance Based Logistics contractual efforts. In addition to your technical responsibilities, you will act as a consultant and advisor to your colleagues, offering detailed engineering analysis to help them achieve their project goals. You will also be expected to present technical information to both technical and non-technical personnel, effectively communicating your findings and defending your technical positions in scientific terms. This position may involve participation in a variety of special projects that require a core competency in engineering, making it a dynamic and engaging role for those passionate about engineering and technical support.

Responsibilities

  • Perform engineering work involving the generation and/or application of theories, principles, practical concepts, systems, and processes.
  • Coordinate with Hardware Systems Command (NAVAIR, NAVSEA) to ensure technical requirements are met.
  • Assist in developing specifications, statements of work, and test plans.
  • Provide technical input into the development of Performance Based Logistics contractual efforts.
  • Act as a consultant/advisor to co-workers, providing detailed engineering analysis as needed.
  • Participate in a variety of special projects requiring core engineering competencies.
  • Present technical information to non-technical personnel.
  • Defend technical findings and positions in scientific terms.

Requirements

  • Must be a US Citizen.
  • Must be determined suitable for federal employment.
  • Must participate in the direct deposit pay program.
  • Must obtain and maintain a secret level security clearance prior to entrance on duty.
  • Must travel up to 25%.
  • Certification in the Acquisition Functional Area and category assigned to the position is required within established category timeframes.
  • Must complete 80 hours of Continuous Learning Points (CLPs) every two (2) years as an Acquisition Workforce member.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in presenting technical information to both technical and non-technical personnel.
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Office or similar software.
