Damar is currently seeking an Intensive Autism Specialist to join our team. The Intensive Autism Specialist provides direct support and intervention for children and adolescents diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), Intellectual Disabilities (ID), Developmental Disabilities (DD), or similar behavioral challenges. This role focuses on delivering intensive autism services, including natural environment training, skills-based treatment, behavior management, data collection, and caregiver education. The primary goal is to promote placement stability by reducing unsafe or disruptive behaviors and increasing prosocial skills through targeted interventions. The Intensive Autism Specialist empowers caregivers through training and coaching, ensuring they are equipped to manage challenging behaviors effectively. This position works closely with individuals referred by the Department of Child Services for Intensive Foster Care Services and collaborates as part of a multidisciplinary team, including the Intensive Autism Supervisor, Director of Autism Services, and other designated professionals, to support evaluation and implementation of clinical services. Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Minimum age of 21 per licensure requirements
  • Valid Indiana driver’s license and driving record that meets eligibility requirements of Damar’s insurance carrier (for all positions requiring driving)
  • Be clear of any felony convictions, substantiated charges of neglect or other disqualifying criminal convictions
  • Successfully complete a pre-employment physical
  • Favorably meet and maintain Damar’s background screening
  • Physical : Primary functions require sufficient physical ability and mobility to work in an office setting; to stand or sit for prolonged periods of time; to occasionally stoop, bend, kneel, crouch, reach, and twist; to lift, carry, push, and/or pull light to moderate amounts of weight (up to 35lbs); to operate office equipment requiring repetitive hand movement and fine coordination including use of a computer keyboard; to travel to other locations using various modes of private and commercial transportation; and to verbally communicate to exchange information.
  • Vision : See in the normal visual range with or without correction.
  • Hearing : Hear in the normal audio range with or without correction.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor’s degree preferred
  • Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) therapy experience and/or experience working with children with autism is preferred but not required

Responsibilities

  • Provides direct services to children diagnosed with Autism, using the principles of Applied Behavior Analysis
  • Provides support and guidance to caregivers caring for youth with severe behavioral challenges
  • Demonstrates confidence when making decisions in the moment regarding Skills Based Treatment
  • Attends mandatory staff meeting and other meetings as assigned
  • Attends meetings, conferences, and workshops as recommended by the Intensive Autism leadership team
  • Participates in Behavior Skills Training (BST)
  • Assists during Practical Functional Assessments
  • Serves as a member of Damar Services’ interdisciplinary team
  • Shows initiative by identifying solutions to work towards improving stakeholder satisfaction
