We're hiring an Intellectual Property Counsel to support our Corporate HQ in Columbia, MO and we're looking for someone who's ready to grow with us, bring energy and drive to their work, and help us build the future of construction. This position is fully remote. The Intellectual Property Counsel will be responsible for addressing and/or managing all of the IP needs of the organization, including but not limited to, legal issues related to trademarks, patents, trade secrets, and copyrights, as well as all public-facing marketing materials. This attorney will be embedded with our product development teams (both technology and manufacturing) to act as legal advisor and provide risk guidance. The ideal candidate will have a proven track record in managing and advising on IP matters with a proactive approach to protect the Company's interests.

  • J.D. from an accredited law school.
  • Active attorney license in good standing and admission to the bar in at least one state.
  • At least 5 years of experience as an IP attorney, including experience with counseling clients on business aspects of IP matters, with in-house experience highly preferred
  • Must be able to sit and look at a computer for long periods of time
  • Occasional travel required.

Nice To Haves

  • Licensed before the USPTO a bonus, but not required

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate with outside counsel on various IP matters involving copyrights, patents, trademarks, and trade secrets
  • Advise and counsel employees in the product development teams regarding legal compliance and risk management
  • Advise and counsel employees on various marketing-related matters, including name-logo-slogan approval, waivers, contest language, website copy and disclaimers, etc.
  • Draft, negotiate, interpret, and advise employees on IP-related agreements (license agreements, joint development agreements, invention disclosures, etc.)
  • Negotiate, interpret, and advise employees on IP provisions in commercial agreements, such as manufacturing, SaaS, and supply agreements
  • Work with outside counsel to evaluate inventions to determine patentability and draft, file, and prosecute patent applications before the USPTO and foreign counterparts
  • Work with the relevant stakeholders to develop and write policies such as open source policy, AI policy, etc.
