About the position

Founded in 2007, Initiate Government Solutions (IGS) a Woman Owned Small Business. We are a fully remote IT services provider that delivers innovative Enterprise IT and Health Services solutions across the federal sector. Our focus is on data analytics, health informatics, cloud migration, and the modernization of federal information systems. IGS uses ISO 9001:2015, 20000-1:2018, 27001:2013, 28001:2007, CMMI/SVC3, CMMI/DEV3 best practices, and PMBOK® methods to provide clients with a strategy to build solid foundations to grow capabilities and revenue. IGS is currently recruiting for an Integration Engineer to support the Department of Veterans Affairs. This position is pending contract award, applicants will be reviewed post-award.

Responsibilities

  • ETL (Extract Transform and Load) to put data into a variety of target formats (text, SQL, Parquet, CSV, MDF, IRIS)
  • Model data tables and make practical and usable within the evolving data syndication database architecture
  • Design the logical and physical schemas needed to support an enterprise dimensional model
  • Evaluate commercial modeling tools against internal offerings to determine best fit and capabilities
  • Evaluate commercial data cataloging platforms with possible implementation
  • Support deployment and change management efforts
  • Provide input on customer access security models
  • Write SQL queries and the performance of queries; develop and update data models that support applicable VA enterprise data standards and the ability for VA to adopt emerging industry data standards
  • Create or enhance database architectures and designs to meet data integration needs as they arise
  • Create code with Microsoft Visual Studio, SQL Server Integration Services (SSIS), ERWIN or similar tools to automate, monitoring, design or data mapping functions
  • ETL, ELT processing to populate and test the new data models
  • Perform IRIS SQL commands to check system status
  • Monitor and perform tuning, optimize for performance
  • Load SQL tables (Historical Pulls) in all regions/districts for classes in all environments, making code adjustments as needed

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Engineering or other technical discipline. (Bachelor’s Degree - Can be substituted for an Associate’s Degree and two (2) additional years of relevant experience, or four (4) additional years of relevant experience and High School Diploma/GED. Associate’s degree - Can be substituted for High School Diploma/GED and two (2) additional year’s relevant experience.)
  • Minimum 3 years of experience; additional relevant experience may be substituted for education
  • Hands-on expertise using Microsoft SQL Server; including daily use of T-SQL scripts
  • Experience with SQL Server Integration Services (SSIS), ERWIN or similar tools to automate, monitoring, design or data mapping functions
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Excellent analytical and organization skills
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a VA Public Trust
  • Must be eligible to work in the United States without sponsorship due to clearance requirement

  • Experience with PowerShell or bash scripts and Azure Databricks
  • Prior, successful experience working in a remote environment
