Responsible for the development, administration and management of all aspects of unique systems required by various campus departments, including design, procurement and implementation. Serves as subject matter expert on assigned system(s) and lead the team by sharing expertise, ensuring policies and procedures are followed, assigning projects and balancing the team's workload. and has customer service responsibility for ensuring timely, accurate and complete delivery of the team's projects. Campus Security Authority: This position is identified as a "Campus Security Authority (CSA)" per the federal law known as the Clery Act. Per this law, the employee is required to report any crimes that they become aware of to the Clery Compliance Officer. Additionally, CSAs are required to complete annual training prescribed by the Clery Compliance Officer. This position is not eligible for VISA Sponsorship. This position is not eligible for a hybrid/remote work schedule. Department Overview: Boise State University's Department of Public Safety is responsible for more than "people safety." In addition to university Security, our team includes the university's Emergency Management Department, Transportation (Shuttle buses and the Cycle Learning Center) and Parking, and Integrated Security Technology. Level Scope: Provides direct supervision typically to professionals or skilled technical employees at the entry or intermediate level. Functions as advisor to unit and administration and sets goals and objectives for team members for achievement of operational results. Analyzes and resolves problems through drawing from prior experiences. Interprets policies (e.g., fiscal management, HR, contracts and grants, resource management in defined areas) and demonstrates solid subject matter knowledge. Exercises judgment within defined procedures and policies to determine appropriate action. Supervises staff to assure accountability and stewardship of campus resources (operational, financial and human) in compliance with departmental goals and objectives.

  • Manages workflow and productivity of personnel to ensure that the needs of the department and campus community are met.
  • Training - Design educational staff training modules that include detailed job orientation at the start of employment as well as through regular staff meetings and ongoing training to ensure regulatory compliance.
  • Responds to campus during emergency events or crisis situations as needed in a timely manner.
  • Procure and maintain security and emergency management technical equipment and software.
  • Maintain security policies and procedures in relation to security technology programs.
  • Oversee video camera and monitoring systems including pre-installation consultation, installation and hardware maintenance.
  • Develop and manage the integration of all security technology programs utilized by the University.
  • Recommend, evaluate, modify and administer specialized Public Safety systems.
  • Develop and maintain integrated security budget for technical hardware and services.
  • Manage Public Safety servers; security patches, performance monitoring.

  • Manage and troubleshoot alarm systems network and cellular communications.

  • Reviews budget needs with the appropriate DPS personnel.
  • Insures inventory control and accountability for purchases including cameras and related supplies.
  • Assist in testing alarm systems including burglar, panic, and intrusion.
  • Assist with testing lock down/lock out electronic doors.
  • Train and support security staff dispatchers on all new and existing security systems.
  • Provide documentation for all new and existing security systems to support Department of Public Safety staff.
  • As assigned by the Assistant Director of Public Safety Systems, support campus construction and security technology projects with Access Control and Security Camera recommendations for new construction.
  • Working with Public Safety security team to manage requests from departments for Integrated Security Technology requests including security systems, security cameras, and card readers.
  • Assist Facilities Operations and Maintenance with cell communicators for support of fire alarm systems.
  • As a key member of the DPS management team, serve on cross functional teams and special projects, and other assignments as requested.
  • May perform other duties as needed.
  • Basic knowledge of Microsoft Active Directory; understanding of Database Administration, and Project Management.
  • Experience with electronic access control systems, IP camera systems, and alarm systems.
  • Ability to collaborate with faculty, staff, students, vendors, and various University partners.
  • Demonstrated experience in managing and coordinating multiple projects and tasks including setting priorities and meeting deadlines.
  • Strong technical analysis and trouble-shooting skills.
  • High level attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication, interpersonal and customer service skills with the ability to facilitate meetings.
  • Demonstrated experience successfully leading various team members.
  • Experience managing a budget.
  • Will be part of a 24/7 on-call rotation for Public Safety Systems.
  • Ability to respond to campus within 30 minutes for unplanned events and emergency response.
  • Requires ability to use SQL to analyze database tables to find needed data fields and to create queries for office staff, as well as to manipulate data within Microsoft SQL Server and MySQL database.
  • Ability to exercise discretion when dealing with confidential matters and information.
  • Ability to respond appropriately and in a timely manner to emergency situations.
  • Bachelor's and 2 years of professional experience is similar type of work.
  • Bachelor's Degree or equivalent and 3 years experience in similar type of work.
  • 1 year minimum experience as a manager.
  • 3 years experience working in IT and Integrated Security Technology.
  • Experience using Lenel OnGuard, Avigilon, and Mantiou systems (preferred).
  • 12 paid holidays AND the University is closed between Christmas and New Year's (requires use of 3 vacation days)
