About The Position

At AMD, our mission is to build great products that accelerate next-generation computing experiences—from AI and data centers, to PCs, gaming and embedded systems. Grounded in a culture of innovation and collaboration, we believe real progress comes from bold ideas, human ingenuity and a shared passion to create something extraordinary. When you join AMD, you’ll discover the real differentiator is our culture. We push the limits of innovation to solve the world’s most important challenges—striving for execution excellence, while being direct, humble, collaborative, and inclusive of diverse perspectives. Join us as we shape the future of AI and beyond. Together, we advance your career. THE ROLE: We are seeking a seasoned Optical Design and Technology expert with significant success in driving optical technology spanning Photonics, Heterogenous integration, and Assembly into advanced packages, working closely with foundries and OSATs (Outsourced Semiconductor Assembly and Test). The individual should have experience in New Product Introduction (NPI) and enabling Product deliveries for Co-Packaged Optics. You are meticulous about applying Design for Manufacturing/Test/Reliability (DFx) principles in your design work. You will interface with PIC designers, test and characterization experts as well as process integration, assembly and packaging experts, while engaging closely with suppliers. This senior role will stretch you as you lead technology teams in new directions, network with our world-class, patent-holding think-tank, and negotiate amongst design teams, process teams, external partners and business unit executives. THE PERSON: You have excellent communication and presentation skills, demonstrated through technical publications, presentations, training, executive briefings, etc. You are highly adept at collaboration among top-thinkers and engineers alike, ready to mentor and guide, and help to elevate the knowledge and skills of the team around you.

Requirements

  • Proven professional experience in the optical transceiver industry, specifically with experience taking designs from research and development (R&D) into production.
  • Expertise in optical numerical simulation principles and tools (Sentaurus, Lumerical, HFSS, ADS, or equivalent).
  • Extensive experience in photonic component and optical engine testing, especially with the goal of closing simulation to measurement gaps, equivalent to post-silicon validation.
  • Experience with using data analysis tools for debugging device performance, correlation to inline parameters or product specifications and evaluating yield.
  • Understanding of optical transceiver design and specifications
  • Experience working with foundries, OSATs and relevant processes
  • Excellent communication, project management, and presentation skills.
  • Adept at collaboration among top-thinkers and senior architects with strong interpersonal skills to work across teams in different geographies
  • Master’s or Ph.D. degree in optical engineering, physics, electrical engineering or related discipline.

Responsibilities

  • Drive optical engine designs and technologies cross-functionally.
  • Close the loop from optical engine specifications, PIC and package requirements, Analog Mixed signal simulations, Test data and accurate component models to drive first time right Optical Engine designs.
  • Ensure devices and integrated units comply with the Design for Manufacturing (DFM) principles and target high yields as required by the cost targets of the product.
  • Work with layout and test engineers to ensure Design for Test (DFT).
  • Identify key reliability and failure mechanisms for optical engines and ensure Design for Reliability (DFR).
  • Conduct Design and Process Failure Modes and Effects Analysis (DFMEA/PFMEA) and execute on plan for resolving critical issues, leading to improved quality, safety, reliability, and cost savings by preventing problems proactively.
  • Contribute to closure of technology readiness gates.
