About The Position

Position Summary: Responsible for completing Universal Screeners during well-child exams for mothers of children aged Birth to 1 and for pediatric patients (ages 8-19) at the Kansas City Kansas Women and Children’s Center. Provide short-term therapy using evidence-based treatment approaches approved by the Swope Behavioral Health Department. Offer brief, targeted case management services to support coordination and connection to community resources, ensuring holistic care. Facilitate warm hand-off referrals for additional behavioral health services in a timely manner. Provide interventions during the well-child appointment for screened patients with one or more positive responses during the same appointment. Primary Functions: Conduct Universal Screeners during well-child exams for mothers of children aged Birth to 1 and for pediatric patients (ages 8-19). Conduct intake assessments as needed to address specific needs. Completion of chart documentation reviews that include the Psychosocial History, Treatment Planning, Chart Progress Notes, and Discharge Summaries within established guidelines and time frames. Engage individuals and families as partners in services and develop positive, hopeful, and trusting relationships. Monitor, evaluate, and record client progress with respect to treatment goals and modify treatment plans according to changes in client status. Perform individual, family and group counseling utilizing approved evidence-based treatment approaches as sanctioned by the Swope Health Behavioral Health Department. Provide brief-targeted case management services to assist with coordinating support and connection to community resources for holistic care. Facilitate warm hand-off referrals for additional behavioral health services in a timely manner. Evaluates crisis situations and applies appropriate interventions. Actively participates in interdisciplinary treatment team meetings that support an integrated health care model to provide comprehensive care for clients. Accurately report billing documentation consistent with the requirements of the payer or contract, i.e. Missouri Department of Mental Health, Missouri Department of Social Services, private insurance, Manage Care contract, Mental Health Levy, etc. Meet expected productivity guidelines and standards. Participate in Continuous Performance Improvement activities . Must possess and demonstrate expertise around diagnostic formulation as it relates to the most current Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Spanish Speaking required
  • Clinically Licensed in the State of Kansas - Licensed Specialist Clinical Social Worker (L S CSW)
  • 1 to 3 years of prior experience with children/youth/adults with serious and persistent mental illness.
  • Ability to use developmentally appropriate therapeutic techniques, including play-based interventions, to engage pediatric clients.
  • Working knowledge of the current DSM with the ability to assess mental health disorders.
  • Knowledgeable regarding trauma informed care.
  • Proficient communication and or ganizational skills.
  • Knowledge of theory and practice of mental health assessment and treatment
  • Cap ability to perform as part of a cross-functional team of professionals.
  • Demonstrate strong professional autonomy and initiative.
  • Flexibility in work arrangements; you may be asked to perform the same task for an extended period of time or to perform different tasks on the same day
  • Possession of a valid driver’s license and auto insurance.
  • Master’s Degree in S ocial Work
  • Must be Clinically Licensed to provide mental health services in the State of Kansas – Licensed Specialist Clinical Social Worker (L S CSW)
  • Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times.
  • Must be able to push up to 15 pounds at times.
  • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience preferred with individuals who have experienced trauma, homelessness, and/or substance abuse; prefer one year in a community mental health setting.
  • Training or certification in Play Therapy preferred
