About The Position

The Intake Therapist position is focused on providing holistic and evidence-based mental health and substance use disorder psychotherapy services for clients in their respective NAT-SU treatment program. The therapist is the primary decision-maker for their clients’ treatment and so they must work closely with other agency staff to monitor progress and make any adjustments needed to ensure the best possible treatment outcomes. This position is an in-person position.

Requirements

  • Master's degree in mental/behavioral health field from an accredited college or university
  • Utah licensure should be obtained within two weeks of hire; NAT-SU will reimburse any fees associated with obtaining a Utah license to practice.
  • Must have experience in completing Biopsychosocial assessments, be familiar with diagnostic tools/assessments, have experience and be comfortable with diagnosing substance use and mental health disorders.
  • Must have experience and be proficient in completing ASAM within all levels of care.
  • Must have experience completing Utilization Reviews to meet Medicaid standards.
  • Familiarity with the science and practice of Medication Assisted Therapy (MAT)
  • Should have a working knowledge of evidenced based practice such as Motivational Interviewing (MI), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Solution focused Therapy, Acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT), etc.
  • Strong ability to build connections, and have strong communication skills, ability to build rapport with clients and co-workers; dedication to working as a team.
  • Competency with Microsoft Outlook, teams, and telehealth services.
  • Strong personal boundary skills, both as a model for clients and to maintain personal self-care.

Nice To Haves

  • Prefer fully licensed clinician who does not require supervision.
  • Minimum of two (3) years working with substance abuse and/or dual diagnosis preferred, however, equivalent training will be provided for the right candidate.
  • Native American background and/or cultural familiarity, and a willingness to learn and use traditional Native healing practices as part of the client’s overall treatment plan.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct biopsychosocial assessment, including substance use disorder and mental health diagnosing, complete comprehensive ASAM, and the use other diagnostic instruments when necessary. These will be done in a face-to-face interview
  • Develop and update client treatment plans consistent with the biopsychosocial assessment and ASAM while using the Medicine Wheel model of wellness.
  • If needed, obtain training (paid by facility) to become familiar with White Bison’s “Wellbriety” 12-step and other curricula and utilize them in facility services.
  • Utilize evidence-based practices (EBPs) for SUD treatment and co-occurring disorders.
  • If needed, conduct individual and group therapy sessions, both in-person and via telehealth (Zoom, etc.).
  • Attend and participate fully in weekly staff meetings.
  • Actively seek opportunities to increase therapeutic expertise through continuing education.
