About The Position

The Intake Clinician is responsible for conducting comprehensive clinical assessments for individuals seeking behavioral health services. This position plays a critical role in determining medical necessity, establishing diagnoses, recommending appropriate levels of care, and ensuring timely access to services. The Intake Clinician ensures all documentation meets regulatory, ethical, and organizational standards and supports continuity of care for clients entering and receiving services. Requirements

  • Master's degree in human services or health-related field (including, but not limited to counseling, social work, psychology, etc.)
  • Certification or licensure as required by the Kentucky state board of the appropriate discipline to provide clinical services (i.e., LPCC, LPCA, LCSW, CSW, LPP, PsyD, PhD, LPA, LCADC, LCADCA, LMFT, MFTA, etc.)
  • Any candidate who can meet state requirements to provide clinical services within their field will be considered.
  • Strong clinical assessment and diagnostic skills.
  • Exceptional interpersonal and engagement skills, with the ability to establish rapport quickly, create a welcoming first impression, and build trust with clients from diverse backgrounds to facilitate meaningful participation in services.
  • Excellent written communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail

  • Familiarity with electronic health record (EHR) systems preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct comprehensive biopsychosocial assessments for individuals seeking services.
  • Complete all required intake documentation in a timely and accurate manner, including clinical assessments, risk screenings, and related documentation.
  • Formulate DSM-5-TR diagnoses based on clinical assessment findings.
  • Determine medical necessity and recommend appropriate levels of care.
  • Develop initial treatment recommendations in collaboration with the client.
  • Refer clients to appropriate internal programs and/or external community-based services based on assessment results.
  • Provide crisis assessment and referral to higher levels of care when indicated (e.g., inpatient, residential, intensive outpatient).
  • Assist in updating and maintaining accurate clinical documentation for clients receiving ongoing services.
  • Review and update assessments as required by payer and regulatory guidelines.
  • Support treatment teams with diagnostic clarification and intake-related documentation needs.
  • Maintain strict adherence to HIPAA and confidentiality standards.
  • Maintain accurate, timely, and high-quality documentation consistent with agency standards.
  • Provide culturally competent, trauma-informed, and client-centered services.
  • Stays current on best practices, new research, and developments in the field of behavioral health treatment.
  • Attends and participates in required meetings, agency trainings, and supervision sessions.
  • Demonstrates the ability to apply supervisory recommendations to work performance.
  • Completes other administrative support duties and special projects as developed and assigned.
