About The Position

The Intake Specialist plays a key role in guiding clients and their families through the initial assessment and referral process following the intake appointment. This involves conducting interviews, screenings, and gathering information to complete a thorough psychosocial assessment, develop a clinical diagnosis, and create an interim service plan. They work collaboratively and communicate clearly with both internal and external stakeholders, including clients, colleagues, and community professionals, often participating in professional meetings, providing consultations, or advocating on behalf of clients. As part of the clinical care team, the Intake Specialist ensures accurate and timely documentation, prepares detailed reports, and submits organized data. They contribute to a professional team environment, taking on various projects as needed to maintain the delivery of high-quality services. The role requires flexibility, as work schedules may include evenings and weekends.

Requirements

Must be 21 years of age (licensing requirement).
Bachelor's degree in the field of social work, psychology, or related subject area preferred.
An associate degree or HS Diploma may be considered with relevant experience.
Proof of COVID immunization.
Must be able to provide own transportation to and from client's homes and/or other relevant organizations/agencies.
CPR/ First Aid certification required.
Bilingual in Spanish required.
Basic understanding of Department of Child Services and the foster care system.
Must be able to meet training and organization requirements for the position.

Responsibilities

Conducts comprehensive psychosocial assessments from diverse referral sources, including general channels, schools, rapid response teams, and urgent enrollments.
Formulates treatment recommendations by summarizing primary presenting issues, identifying child and family strengths, and establishing a diagnosis based on the initial interview.
Establishes rapport with clients, families, and stakeholders through mutual respect, empathy, and professionalism.
Develops interim service plans that outline subsequent steps post-intake for both the provider and the person or family, specifying issues for ongoing assessment.
Provides effective crisis assessments by adhering to program triage protocols, arranging emergency psychiatric evaluations or hospitalizations as indicated, ensuring follow-up, discussing options, and managing various situations calmly.
Evaluates for Serious Emotional Disturbance in minors and assesses for Serious Mental Illness.
Refers clients to community resources when no behavioral health issues are identified.
Conducts educational activities to enhance client understanding of treatment services, including therapy, behavior management, psychiatric evaluations, medication, diagnoses, parenting skills, and direct support.
Demonstrates proficiency in group processes, fostering group commitment to common goals and cultivating an environment of mutual respect and understanding.
Utilizes expertise in assessment and diagnosis by applying DSM-V-TR criteria, and maintains clinical records promptly in accordance with standards.
Attends all intake department staff meetings, contributes to the improvement of admission procedures, and participates in evaluating the quality and effectiveness of intake services.
Engages in in-service training and educational opportunities, both within and outside the agency, as required and as resources permit.
Completes referrals for recommended services following the completion of intake assessments.
Assists with various projects during periods of reduced intake appointments.
Performs additional duties as assigned by the Supervisor.
