About The Position

The Intake Representative at Lexington Medical Center plays a crucial role in providing exceptional customer service within the Emergency Department. This position involves managing incoming calls, assisting patients and staff, and ensuring efficient communication between various departments. The representative acts as the first point of contact for patients, addressing inquiries and facilitating a smooth experience in the emergency care process.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent
  • 1 year of experience in a hospital/medical setting
  • 1 year of experience in telephone and public relations field
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required or must be obtained within 90 days of hire
  • Crisis Prevention Intervention (CPI) certification required or must be obtained within 90 days of hire
  • Functional knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
  • Experience with using a computer and multi-line telephone

Responsibilities

  • Answer incoming calls to the Emergency Department and assist customers with inquiries.
  • Act as the first point of contact for patients via telephone.
  • Respond to written and oral correspondence concerning patient inquiries.
  • Perform follow-up calls to patients previously seen in the ED regarding lab or radiology testing variances.
  • Maintain accurate logs of calls and patient concerns.
  • Track and collect data on all incoming and outgoing calls.
  • Maintain hospital-wide forms utilized by the ED and ensure they are up to date.
  • Assign lockers to new staff members and manage the availability of staff lockers.
  • Distribute and monitor electronic communication devices used by the ED.
  • Contact interpreters, radiology, poison control, etc., as needed for patient care.
  • Work alongside ED Guest Services to serve as a liaison between patients and families and the organization.
