About The Position

The A&R Mental Health Technician (MHT) position is required to assist A&R Clinicians and RNs with coordinating and communicating with patients, families, and referral sources daily about our facility’s mental health care services, patient’s personal needs, monitoring and documenting patient care, escorting patients, and assisting in patient assessment. Customer Service attitude and ability to effectively communicate is imperative in this role!

Requirements

  • High School Degree or equivalent required
  • At least one (1) year of related experience in psychiatric or behavioral health.
  • Must be at least 21 years of age or older.
  • Successful completion of CPR and Handle with Care or Crisis Prevention Intervention Training within 30 days of employment, and prior to assisting in restraining procedures.

Nice To Haves

  • Certified Nurse Assistant preferred!
  • Psychiatric Technician: 1 year (Preferred)

Responsibilities

  • Communicate information regarding any changes in a patient’s condition to the program staff, such as Clinicians, Therapists, RN’s and other MHT staff.
  • Utilize sound judgment during assessment in order to observe and document any changes in a patient's appearance, behavior, or ability/inability to work towards meeting treatment plan goals.
  • Ensure awareness of patient's individualized plan of care.
  • Document patient’s information and treatment plan, interventions and the patient's response to intervention(s).
  • Assist patients through the intake/admission and discharge process.
  • Assist patients with personal hygiene and activities of daily living.
  • Carry out patient pat-down/contraband search of patient and his/her belongings.
  • Inventory patients’ belongings at moment of intake assessment.
  • Take and record vital signs and report abnormalities to Charge Nurse.
  • Employ principles of communication, interviewing techniques, problem solving and crisis intervention techniques when performing interventions.
  • Identify patients at risk and implement procedures to monitor and reduce at risk factors.
  • Maintain and observe a therapeutic and appropriate relationship staff/patient boundaries.
