The Michigan Immigrant Rights Center is seeking candidates for a bilingual (Spanish & English) Intake Coordinator Assistant. DESCRIPTION OF PROGRAM: MIRC is a legal resource center for immigrant communities. The three pillars of our work are: direct legal services, systemic advocacy, and community education and engagement. MIRC is part of Michigan Statewide Advocacy Services (MSAS), a non-profit law firm providing free legal services to low income and senior persons through several statewide programs. MSAS is administered by the Michigan Advocacy Program (MAP), which provides access to the justice system for those who need it the most through civil legal aid offices and statewide advocacy programs. MAP’s mission is to advance the safety, independence, and economic stability of those most affected by poverty, racism, and other structurally oppressive systems by increasing access to justice and working for systemic solutions. RESPONSIBILITIES: The intake coordinator assistant will play a key role in assisting MIRC’s efforts to manage a robust and busy intake system. The intake coordinator assistant’s responsibilities will include conducting phone-based intakes, reviewing intakes taken by other staff and volunteers, performing follow up and other assistance on open and rejected cases, helping with other clerical and administrative tasks, and overall, ensuring that all new cases are reviewed in a timely manner. SCHEDULE: This position is part-time, anticipated to be roughly 20 hours/week. Our workday is between 9am and 5pm. There will be some flexibility within those parameters. The specific work schedule will be determined during the hiring process. We recognize that candidates may have varying scheduling needs, including academic commitments, and we are committed to exploring flexible options with each finalist.
