About The Position

The Intake Clinician plays a crucial role in managing the program’s referral and admissions process, encompassing all initial clinical and administrative functions. As the first point of contact for new admissions, this position ensures the completion of all aspects of the intake process, including initial clinical assessments and securing funding. This individual is responsible for maintaining the quality and timeliness of assessments, as well as accurately tracking and reporting referral information. This role involves significant interaction with external entities such as referral sources and the community, as well as internal program management, including ongoing collaboration with the marketing department. Key responsibilities include achieving program utilization goals and objectives, conducting intake and assessments (including ASAMs), and generating daily reports on admission and discharge statuses via the agency’s electronic health record system. The work is performed with considerable independence, adhering to established regulations, policies, and procedures. The Admissions or Program Director, to whom this individual reports, reviews and supervises the work.

Requirements

  • Must hold a master’s degree in social work, counseling, psychology, or a related field with active DC independent clinical licensure (e.g. LICSW, LPC, LMFT, or licensed psychologist)

Responsibilities

  • Treat all clients and staff with dignity and respect
  • Manage all phases of pre-admission /intake services for assigned programs, including timely and accurate completion of clinical assessments
  • Maintain efficient admissions/intake assessment procedures, ensuring appropriate referrals to program
  • Participates with the multidisciplinary team to assess, evaluate, and determine the need for services
  • Completes telephonic and face-to-face interviews with individuals presenting for admission
  • Oversee and ensure client intake to care/transition, ensuring completion of documentation within the electronic health record system
  • Completes all required reports for funding sources
  • Maintain proficiency in assessment, intake and level of care protocols, utilizing the ASAM criteria
  • Ensure accurate, up-to-date, intake records, records of referral, and funding sources
  • Conduct admission funding reviews with relevant payor(s)
  • Establish and maintain positive relationships with funding, referral and regulatory agencies
  • Other duties as assigned by the Admissions or Program Director, or designee
  • Knowledge of regulatory, licensing, and accreditation standards
  • Knowledge and ability to work with electronic health record systems
  • Knowledge of substance use and mental health disorder treatment programs
  • Knowledge and skill in assessment/evaluation and intake process and procedures
  • Ability to exercise sound judgment in developing, implementing, interpreting and evaluating program policies, procedures and regulations
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing
  • Ability to work with clients to gain confidence and cooperation
  • Ability to successfully work with others from various cultures and backgrounds
  • Ability to plan and organize work and prepare appropriate, accurate records, and reports
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with clients, staff, health care providers, referral entities, outside agencies, institutions and the general public
  • Skilled at using computers, including familiarity and faculty with Microsoft Office programs like Word and Excel
