About The Position

The Intake Clinician is a vital behavioral health professional at Palms Behavioral Health, responsible for facilitating admissions, conducting clinical intake assessments, and managing the prior authorization process to ensure that patients receive the most appropriate level of care. This role involves performing thorough assessments and screenings to determine clinical and medical appropriateness, and effectively communicating these findings to a physician who will make the final care decisions. The Intake Clinician works collaboratively with various departments, including the business office, nursing, and clinical staff, as well as external parties, to ensure timely admissions for patients seeking care. In this position, the Intake Clinician will facilitate the intake, admission, and prior authorization processes for incoming patients. This includes performing insurance benefit verifications and disseminating the gathered information to patients, their families, and relevant internal staff. The clinician will provide ongoing assessments of the patient's status throughout the admission and prior authorization processes, ensuring that all necessary steps are taken to facilitate a smooth transition into care. The role also requires adherence to EMTALA regulations, completing insurance verifications and precertifications as needed. The Intake Clinician will respond to inquiries about the facility within established policy timeframes, schedule and complete pre-admission assessments, and communicate recommendations to patients and their families. Collaboration with other medical and psychiatric personnel is essential to ensure appropriate recommendations and admissions. Additionally, the clinician will perform ongoing assessments of patients' physical, emotional, social, spiritual, and financial needs, implementing crisis interventions and referrals as necessary. Education regarding healthcare and social resource systems will be provided to empower patients and their families to access resources independently. Maintaining accurate documentation throughout the admissions process is also a critical responsibility of this role.
